School records and state titles: Cape Cod High School Girls Track and Field All-Scholastics

The 2023 girls track and field season featured plenty of individual success across Cape Cod and the Islands.

Dennis-Yarmouth claimed the overall Cape and Islands League title, after scoring 164.5 points as a team, ahead of Nauset in second (112.5), and Barnstable (95).

This past season saw both personal and school records established, individual state champions, and athletes traveling all over Massachusetts and the East Coast to compete.

Needless to say, there was no shortage of athletes who deserved a spot on this list.

Presenting the 2023 Girls Track and Field All-Scholastics:

Ava Bullock of Barnstable placed 1st (11:41.89) in the girls 2 mile

Ava Bullock, Barnstable

In her sophomore season, Ava Bullock set the Barnstable school record in both the mile (5:13), and two-mile (11:07). She took the Cape and Islands League title in the mile, and was a member of the 4x800 relay team that also won the league title. She took second place at the MIAA Division 2 State Championship meet in the two-mile, finishing just three seconds behind the winner. She also competed at the Meet of Champions, where she placed seventh in the two-mile. Her favorite moment of the season was when she, "had an amazing kick in my last lap of the mile and got myself my first invitational win of the season as well as breaking a long standing school record."

Lilly DeDecko, Barnstable

Lilly DeDecko's 5:14 mile time ranks as the second fastest in Barnstable history behind her teammate Ava Bullock. DeDecko finished sixth overall in the state in the mile, which she said was her favorite moment of the season. She also placed 10th in the state in the two-mile, and was also a member of Barnstable's league champion 4x800 relay team.

Chloe Dibb, Barnstable

Dibb was another leg of the 4x800 league title winning team. During the season, Dibb broke her own school record in the 800m (2:17), and took fourth overall in the state in the same event at the MIAA Division 2 State Championships. Her favorite moment of the season was, "traveling to Bangor Maine to compete in the New England Championships for the 800m."

Laik O'Reilly, Barnstable

Just a freshman, O'Reilly qualified for the State Championships in the long jump and finished 15th overall. She was second in both the long jump, and 200m at the Cape and Islands League Championships.

Lillie Ells, Barnstable

Ells competed in the javelin throw for the Red Hawks, and claimed the Cape and Islands League title with a throw of 98-09, which was over ten feet farther than her closest competitor. The senior competed at the State Championships, and finished ninth with a throw of 103'.

Avery Morrill, Bourne

Morrill said her favorite moment of the season was "the meet at Fairhaven when I won my heat in the 800 and got a PR." She also plays volleyball for Bourne, and at the club level, and does competitive gymnastics.

Breanna Braham, Dennis-Yarmouth

Braham was a double Cape and Islands League champion this past season for the Dolphins. The sophomore claimed the 100m title (13.09), and the 400m title (59.14), helping D-Y claim the overall Cape and Islands League crown. At the MIAA Division 5 State Championships, she claimed the state ritle in the 200m after running a 24.87, and took second in the 400m (57.38).

Rose Karow, Dennis-Yarmouth

Karow claimed the Cape and Islands League title in the 400m hurdles for the Dolphins (1:12), and was a member of the 4x800 relay team, which finished in second place. At the State Championships, she finished 18th in the 400m. Her favorite memory from the season was, "winning the divisional title for the 4x800 with my favorite girls." She will be attending Plymouth State next year, where she'll study Exercise Science, and Physiology, while also continuing her track and cross country careers.

Rose Anna Joachim, Dennis-Yarmouth

Joachim finished first (17.10) ahead of two other Dolphins in the 100m hurdles to win the Cape and Islands League title.

Siena Lauze, Dennis-Yarmouth

Lauze took second in the 800m at the Cape and Islands League Championship, and third in the same event at the MIAA Division 5 State Championships (2:22.58).

Ava Kvietok, Dennis-Yarmouth

Kvietok won the discuss (96-07) in her sophomore season for the Dolphins. Her favorite moment of the season was, "winning first overall as a team at the league meet and placing first in girls discus as well." She's also a member of the National Honor's Society.

Camille Brand, Martha's Vineyard

After placing second in the high jump at the Cape and Islands League championships, Brand went on the MIAA Division 5 State Championships, where she placed fourth with a jump of 5-02. She also qualified for the state championships in the 200m.

Rhiannon Vos, Monomoy

Vos claimed the two-mile Cape and Islands League title (11:54). She qualified for the MIAA Division 6 State Championship in both that and the mile, and finished third (11:37.54) and ninth (5.23.78) respectively.

Violet Roche, Nauset

Roche said her favorite moment of the season was, "breaking the school record in the triple jump then breaking my own record the very next jump." Just a freshman, she won the Cape and Islands League titles in both the long jump (16-3.75), and the triple jump (35-2), while also finishing second in the 400m. At the state championships, she took fourth in the triple jump (35-01.50), and came in sixth (60.35) in the long jump. She also plays soccer for the Warriors.

Rhianna Sutherland, Nauset

Sutherland stood on three podiums at the Cape and Islands League Championship for the Warriors. She finished on the top step in the 200m (26.26), placed second in the 100m, and took third in the long jump. Her highest finish at the state championship was fourth overall in the 100m (12.64). She also took seventh in the 200m (26:30). Her favorite moment of the season was, "getting my first divisionals medal in the 100 meters because of how much I trained in the last two years trying to get one."

Cecilia LaBarge, Nauset

Labarge said her favorite moment of the season was, "going to the state relay meet and winning the 100m shuttle hurdle relays with my hurdle team and Coach Bren while breaking our school record." At the Cape and Islands League Championship, she won the shot put (32-5), was second in the discus, and was sixth in the 100m. At the MIAA Division 4 State Championships, she finished sixth in both the shot put (32-07.75), and the discuss (102-00).

Madeline Mahoney, Nauset

Mahoney won the Cape and Islands League title in the 800m (2:23), and qualified for the MIAA Division 4 State Championships. She placed second overall in the 800m (2:21.70). Her favorite memory of the season was, "running the 800 and mile at divisionals and learning that hard work pays off." She's a three-season athlete for the Warriors, and competed in robotics.

Madeline Keyes, Sandwich

Keyes was the high jump champion for the Cape and Islands League last season. Her mark of 5-0 earned her the title.

Hailey Butler, Sturgis

Butler had a strong showing for Sturgis at the Cape and Islands League championships. The sophomore got on the podium with a second place finish in the two-mile, and also ran a leg on the third place 4x400 relay team. At the MIAA Division 5 State Championships, she finished ninth in the two-mile.
