Saturday's prep highlights: STM football keeps rolling, Monticello volleyball wins PBL Classic

Oct. 8—In football

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 35, Momence 19. The Blue Devils (5-2) rode a 21-point first quarter to a home victory in Vermilion Valley play. Ayden Ingram led the receiving core with five catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Chaz Dubois

Cumberland 55, Tri-County 12. The Titans (0-7) had a rough go of it, but Landen Paugh scored one touchdown on the ground, and Garrett Pollock connected with Myles Watson

* for one through the air.

Forreston 22, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 21. The Falcons (5-2) fell one point shy of handing the Cardinals their first loss. Aiden Sancken ran for 72 yards on 10 carries. Ty Cribbett ran for 69 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Brayden Elliott completed 8 of 17 passes for 104 yards and one touchdown. Trent Wetherall

Milford/Cissna Park 76, South Beloit 8.

* The Bearcats (5-2) put up 46 points in the first quarter en route to a commanding win.

Prairie Central 41, Herrin 7. The Hawks (5-2) scored 28 first-half points on their way to a nonconference road victory. Avery Elder completed 11 of 18 passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Hudson Ault rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Talen Steidinger caught three passes for 74 yards and two scores. Will Skala

St. Thomas More 62, Metro-East Lutheran 7. The Sabers (7-0) put on a clinic to stay undefeated. Reid Craddock completed 5 of 10 passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Peace Bumba rushed for 192 yards on six attempts and caught one pass for eight yards for a total of three touchdowns. Ben Horn caught two passes for 95 yards and one score. In volleyball

At Highland. Champaign Central (21-12) went 2-1 on the day, taking 2-0 wins over Highland (25-20, 25-19) and Carbondale (25-13, 25-16). Kindle Williams had 17 kills and 27 digs on the day. Bridget Cassady had 16 kills and 11 aces. Cricket Wagner tallied 34 digs, and Ava Clark

At Paris. Tri-County (6-14) went 2-1 with wins over Neoga (25-19, 25-17) and Chrisman (19-25, 25-16, 15-11) at Paris Invitational. Josie Armstrong led the Titans with 29 kills on the day. Briana Reese added 18 kills, and Brookelyn Gough

At Paxton. Monticello (19-7) won the PBL Classic with a 25-21, 25-13 win over Milford in the championship. Rantoul (11-17) placed fourth after falling 25-15, 26-24 in the consolation match. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley (6-17) went 2-1 on the day, and Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond (10-14) and Paxton-Bucley-Loda (7-15) went 1-2. Area players making the All-Tournament Team were ALAH's Summer Melton, GCMS' Sophia Ray (15 kills, 36 digs), Milford's Hunter Mowery and Anna McEwen, Monticello's Jobi Smith, PBL's Bailey Bruns and Rantoul's Ashlee Freeman

At Quincy. St. Joseph-Ogden (25-4) went 4-1 with wins over West Prairie (25-22, 25-21), Quincy (25-15, 25-20), Jacksonville (25-21, 25-22) and Macomb (25-23, 25-21). Addie Roesch led the way with 41 kills and 42 digs. Peyton Williams had 38 kills and 28 digs. Halle Brazelton had 107 assists and 48 digs. Sadie Ericksen

In boys' soccer

Centennial 8, Rantoul 0. The Chargers (9-7-2) had their way with the host Eagles (5-11-1) thanks to goals from six different players. Beni Kavumvula scored twice. Spencer Wallace-Dahl, Devon McClure, Mejia Samons, Victor Fernandez and Nehemiah McKissick also scored. Fernandez, McKissick and Rommy Hassan

In boys' cross-country

At Delavan. Danville finished sixth as a team with six runners setting personal records. Revan Bailey

* led the way in 31st with a time of 18:09.

At Metamora. Mahomet-Seymour, Champaign Central and Rantoul ran in the Gene Jones Runnin' Red Invite. The Bulldogs placed eighth with 199 points, the Maroons were right behind in ninth with 200 points and the Eagles finished 20th with 542 points. * was Mahomet's lead runner in ninth (15:14.8).

In girls' cross-country

At Metamora. Unity, Mahomet-Seymour, Champaign Central and Rantoul ran in the Gene Jones Runnin' Red Invite. The Rockets were just seven points away from first but placed second with a score of 73. The Bulldogs finished sixth (176), the Maroons placed ninth (239) and the Eagles were 20th (547). Unity's Mackenzie Pound led area runners in fourth (17:35.5), immediately followed by Mahomet's Ava Boyd

* in fifth (17:50.1).

In girls' swimming and diving

At Urbana. Centennial finished runner-up at the Tiger Invite with a score of 387, followed by Urbana in third (294), Uni High in fourth (262), Mahomet-Seymour in fifth (245) and Danville in sixth (122). The Bulldogs won two events: Talynn O'Donnell in the 200-yard freestyle (2:02.48) and the 400 free relay team of O'Donnell, Caroline Mills, Claire Waggoner and Lainey Howard
