Road to State: Get Athens-area high school basketball state playoffs schedules here
High school basketball playoffs are upon us in the Athens area.
Slates are clean and everyone is back to ground zero. Several Athens-area teams qualified.
Most of the Athens-area programs are the higher seeds in their respective brackets, making them host for at least the first round. Few others are stuck traveling across the state to meet their match.
North Oconee's boys claimed its first-ever region championship and one-seed last Friday, while the school's girls team slid into a two-seed. Oglethorpe County, Athens Christian, Prince Avenue Christian and Athens Academy all survived both the boys and girls sides of the competition for entry and Monsignor Donovan earned itself a bye as the top-ranked team in GIAA 4A.
The opening round begins Tuesday and continues into Wednesday. The GHSA championships will be held on March 6-9 at the Macon Centreplex and the GIAA championships will be held on March 1-2 at Columbus State.
