Julio Teheran, shown here pitching for the Padres in spring training, has reportedly agreed to terms with the Brewers.

In desperate need of bolstering a starting rotation that has been hammered by injuries, the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday reportedly agreed to terms with veteran Julio Teheran on a major-league contract.

Teheran, 32, is a right-hander who had gone 4-2 with a 5.63 earned run average and a WHIP of 1.68 in eight starts for the San Diego Padres Class AAA affiliate El Paso.

Teheran signed with San Diego in the spring but recently exercised an out clause, opening the door for the Brewers to bring him onboard.

Milwaukee didn't immediately announce the deal, presumably because Teheran is yet to complete a physical.

Assuming everything checks out Teheran gives the Brewers a much-needed option to add to their rotation, which is without Brandon Woodruff, Wade Miley and Eric Lauer due to injury.

More: The Brewers' starting pitching depth was already thin. Now they just lost another arm to injury.

Teheran rose to prominence with the Atlanta Braves, twice making the National League all-star team in 2014 and 2016.

Since leaving Atlanta following the 2019 season, however, Teheran has pitched in only 11 major-league games – and one since 2020 (2021 with the Detroit Tigers).

He pitched in the Mexican League in 2022 and also made six appearances for Staten Island in the independent Atlantic League.

While Teheran's numbers at El Paso this season weren't especially impressive, that's almost considered par for the course for most pitchers in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.

The important thing from the Brewers' perspective is he's healthy and his stuff has looked good, as he's averaged 10.1 strikeouts per nine innings.

Teheran has also gone as deep at 6 ⅔ innings in a start (April 27).
