Strider got the punch out on Nationals batter Jake Alu to end the 2nd inning, stranding two batters on base. Strider's record-setting strikeout put him in sole possession of 1st place ahead of John Smoltz, who struck out 276 batters in his Cy Young-winning 1996 season.
