One of Pensacola’s top area football recruits has narrowed down his Division I offers from 33 to three.

Pine Forest’s Jonathan Daniels, a four-star offensive lineman, announced on July 4 his top three schools on Twitter: the University of Kentucky, Florida State University and the University of Georgia.

Daniels received an offer from Kentucky on Feb. 20, and took an official visit on June 9. His offer from Florida State came on July 30, 2022, after an unofficial visit on the same day. He took another unofficial visit on Jan. 14 before taking an official visit on June 23. Georgia’s offer came in similar fashion on June 16, 2022, during an unofficial visit. He took another unofficial visit on Jan. 28 before taking his official visit on June 16 of this year.

As a junior with the Eagles, Daniels had 17 pancake blocks in nine games. On the defensive side of the ball, he did have six total tackles and one blocked field goal.

It didn’t take long for Navarre’s Tyrell Marshall to make his decision for the next level.

Marshall, who committed to the University of Memphis on June 26, received an offer from the Tigers on June 2 and had his official visit on June 23. But what stood out about the program was assistant head coach Charles Clark’s ability to make it feel like Marshall “was a priority.” Clark also works with the defensive backs, and Marshall was recruited as a cornerback.

Marshall chose Memphis over offers from Alabama State, Keiser University, the University of Massachusetts, Liberty University, Arkansas State, Akron University and the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

“Coach Clark really made it feel like … I was their No. 1 guy on the board,” Marshall said. “It was just little conversations, checking up on me and my family, making sure I’m good outside of football – just little things like that.”

Marshall, a rising senior with the Raiders, saw an increased role during his junior season at Navarre. He played in 10 games – compared to just three his sophomore season – and recorded 24 total tackles (16 solo, 8 assisted).

A versatile player, Marshall – who was recently ranked a three-star recruit by 247sports – was also Navarre’s punter and recorded 17 punts last season with an average of 33.2 yards. He also had one kickoff return for 54 yards. Offensively, Marshall had four receptions spread across three games for 33 yards.

Going into his senior season, Marshall noted he wants to show Memphis coaches that he “can play a little bit of offense, too,” since he’ll be playing some offense with Navarre.

“I also want to get more interceptions to show them that I can get up there and be a ball hog,” Marshall said. “My family, they loved it up (in Memphis). And Memphis has a good gameplan for me.”

Marshall’s brother, Terence Marshall, also going into his senior season at Navarre, has several Division I offers on the table as well. He has yet to make an announcement.

“It’s fun, just sitting down and talking with him about different schools, and where is good for him and me,” Tyrell said. “There was a little bit of hope (we could go to the same school). Our parents wanted us to, but we wanted to go our separate ways.”
