BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Glenwood uses relays to win CS8 title

Chatham Glenwood claimed three of the four relays en route to the Central State Eight Conference title at Spartan Field.

The Titans totaled 164 points, followed by Normal U-High at 104.5. Lincoln and Springfield High tied for third with 77.

Glenwood’s Van Schneider edged out Lincoln’s Ben Crombie for first place in the 800-meter run. He finished in 1 minute, 56.14 seconds. He also anchored the winning 4x800 relay in 8:13.89. That also included Mason Daley, Will Patzia and Edward Wilson.

Kelen Moomey, Colton Ladage, Micah Grussenmeyer and Blake Lehen captured the 4x100 relay in 43.19. Ladage, Grussenmeyer also assisted the winning 4x200 relay in 1:32.43 with Lucas Smith and Brady Rayl.

Glenwood’s Larry Wills also won the long jump with a distance of 22 feet, 6 inches.

Lincoln’s Parker Campbell swept the 110- and 300-meter hurdles in 15.54 and 42.20 seconds, respectively.

Lincoln teammate Kani Carson also earned first place in two events. He won the 400 in 50.56 seconds and anchored the winning 4x400 relay with twin brother Ki’on Carson, Crombie and Luke Jones in 3:26.40.

Jacksonville’s Griffin Martin took the discus throw (149-2) while Rochester’s Jack Stanton topped the pole vault (12-3).

SOFTBALL

AUBURN 4, BUFFALO TRI-CITY 3: At Buffalo, Meena Taylor commanded the circle with 15 strikeouts in a one-hit outing as the Trojans eked out a nonconference win.

Taylor walked one and all three runs were unearned. Taylor Patterson broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run single in the top of the fourth inning to give Auburn a 4-2 lead.

Tri-City got within 4-3 when Lexie Patton scored on an error, but Taylor then ended the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh. Savannah Sladek had the lone hit for Tri-City.

Addison Jones had a hit and an RBI for Auburn.

NORMAL U-HIGH 11, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 2: At Comstock Field, U-High scored six runs in the fourth inning and posted a Central State Eight Conference win.

Emme Steward had a two-run home run in U-High's big fourth inning. Meera Sundaram added a solo homer in the sixth and winning pitcher Maggie Stadler limited SHG to two hits, while striking out 15 and walking two.

Lucy Wegner belted a two-run home run for SHG in the fourth.

MAROA-FORSYTH 9, ATHENS 8: At Maroa, Karleigh Crutchfield hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Trojans nearly blew a 7-3 lead in a Sangamo Conference game.

Athens scored five runs in the top of the seventh when Kenzie Szoke delivered an RBI single, and Layken Buch smacked a grand slam to give the Warriors an 8-7 lead. Carly Szoke also homered, and Isabel Ingram finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Athens.

Maroa-Forsyth tied the game by scoring a run on an error in the bottom half of the seventh. Adelyn Simmons went 4-for-4 and Lainey Larner was 3-for-5 for the Trojans.  

GILLESPIE 9, HILLSBORO 0: At Gillespie, Emma Gipson pitched a four-hit shutout and supported herself at the plate with three hits in Gillespie’s South Central Conference win.

Gipson fanned nine batters and walked one. She went 3-for-4 with a double and hit a solo home run that gave Gillespie a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Wrigley Releford, Addi Cox and Laci Shuckenbrock had two hits apiece and each doubled for the Miners.

Lauren Bertagnolli and Sadie Sholtis both had base hits and drove in two runs apiece in the win.

PAWNEE 12, RAYMOND LINCOLNWOOD 2 (6 innings): At Pawnee, Emma Selhime struck out 10 batters and threw a one-hitter to lead the host to an MSM Conference win.

Selhime walked two and yielded two unearned runs. Pawnee finished with six extra base hits, including getting a three-run home run from Adalyn Boblitt. Amber Bradbury and Makenna Corrie added three hits apiece.  

PONTIAC 11, LINCOLN 10 (8 innings): At Pontiac, the hosts rallied from a 7-0 deficit and Adriann Sutton hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Pontiac to a nonconference win.

Pontiac led 10-8 until Lincoln sent the game to extra innings when Grey Gilbert singled in a run and another run came home on an error to tie the game at 10 apiece.

Gilbert finished 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Faith Eckhardt had a two-run home run for Lincoln in the third to give the Railers a 5-0 lead. Taryn Stoltzenburg, Kelsey Marten and Morgan Sheley provided Lincoln with two hits apiece.

Cadence Helms had four RBIs and teammate Natalie Zimmerman finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs for Pontiac in the back-and-forth game.

PANA 14, RAMSEY 0 (5 innings): At Ramsey, Shelby Ashcraft finished with two hits, including a home run and five RBIs, to lead Pana to a nonconference victory.

Izzy Reed went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and Kennedy Bowker, Joey Laker, Brianna Mathis and Allie Sarver ended with two hits apiece for Pana.

WILLIAMSVILLE 16, WARRENSBURG-LATHAM 13: At Warrensburg, Reese Larson hit for the cycle and Naomi Roberts went 4-for-5 and drove in two runs in Williamsville’s high-scoring victory.

Larson finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored and Roberts tripled and homered.

Norah Dodsworth had three hits and Izzy Nowack, Elle Smithers and Ayla Howard contributed two hits apiece and two RBIs each. Nicole Sinks went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for Williamsville.

PIASA SOUTHWESTERN 5, NORTH MAC 1: At Virden, Grace Strohbeck pitched a complete game and limited North Mac to five hits in a South Central Conference win.

Strohbeck fanned eight and walked two, while Ella Kadell (2-for-4) homered, and Josie Hagen went 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Southwestern.

Taylor Keirs was 2-for-3 and Reese Perrine drove in the only run for North Mac.

BEARDSTOWN 23, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 8 (5 innings): At Jacksonville, Vanessa Nunez (2-for-3, three runs) and Monse Montoya finished with four RBIs each in the Tigers’ win.

Faith Beddingfield went 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs for Routt.  

ROXANA 11, STAUNTON 1 (5 innings): At Roxana, Evin Frank had a hit and an RBI in Staunton’s non-conference loss.

Kennedi Robien homered and drove in four runs and Lilli Ray went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Roxana.

Wednesday’s results

ATHENS 8, NEW BERLIN 1: At Athens, Layken Buch delivered a single with two RBIs in a Sangamo Conference win.

Preslie Buckmaster led off the order with two hits and two runs. Carly Szoke scored twice on two walks.

Isabel Ingram earned the win in two innings, giving up one run on three hits and one walk with one strikeout.

BEARDSTOWN 8, MENDON UNITY 3: At Mendon, Vanessa Nunez and Kylynn Maltby each provided two hits in the win.

Nunez had a double with two RBIs and a run while Maltby had a triple with an RBI and run. Shelby Goodrich picked up the win in three innings. She gave up three hits and two walks with no runs.

HAVANA 13, SCIOTA WEST PRAIRIE 2: At Sciota, Addi Atwater, Kaydi Miller and Libbie Johnson drove in three runs apiece in Havana’s runaway win.

Atwater doubled and she and Abby Cowell finished with three hits apiece. Johnson doubled and joined Miller, who tripled, with two hits each. Willa Towery (two runs scored) drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 and Lily Snowden collected two hits, two runs and an RBI as Havana concluded with 16 hits.

Hannah Hodgson went the distance in the circle, striking out nine, walking seven and allowing two hits and two earned runs.
