Poll: Vote for the Journal's May 5-12 Athletes of the Week
Several milestones were reached, some upsets pulled and playoff berths secured last week as the regular season winds down. As such, we've got a full list of nominees.
Last week's Athlete of the Week winners were Pawling softball player Lyndsey Cole and Roosevelt baseball player Aidan Hartwell. Cole won the small-schools poll with 29,454 votes and Hartwell received 19,202 votes to take the large-schools poll.
Voting will be open until 6 p.m. Friday. This week's nominees:
Large-school nominees
Owen Paino, Ketcham baseball
The Ole Miss commit was 2 for 2 with a homer and three RBI in a win over Carmel, hit a two-run homer in victory over rival John Jay, and went 2 for 4 in a win against North Rockland.
Riley Pettigrew, Arlington track and field
She won the girls 200 meters (24.66 seconds) at the Loucks Games at White Plains last weekend.

3 in a row: Wappingers girls lacrosse clinches third straight league title
Landon Seipp John Jay baseball
The left-hander allowed five hits and struck out four in six shutout innings for the Patriots in a 1-0 upset of Ketcham last Monday. Seipp also pitched 6⅓ scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a 1-0 win over Rye.
Damani DeLoatch, Beacon track and field
The senior won the boys long jump (20 feet, 9¼ inches) and triple jump (48 feet, ¼ inch) at the Middletown Invitational last Saturday.
Kat Hotle, Ketcham softball
The senior went 3 for 4 with two RBI for Ketcham in a 6-5 win over John Jay, and she was 2 for 4, including her 100th career hit, in a win over Suffern.
Eric Santaella, Arlington baseball
He was 8 for 15 with three walks and three runs last week, helping the Admirals extend their win streak to 12 games.
Brayden Kuczma, Wappingers boys lacrosse
He had five goals and two assists - including a stretch when he scored or assisted five consecutive goals - to lead the Warriors in a 9-5 win over rival Arlington.
Lucas Mackin, Arlington boys lacrosse
He scored his 100th career goal while leading the Admirals to a 12-11 overtime win over Suffern.
Mikey Fontaine, Beacon baseball
The senior allowed three hits and no walks with five strikeouts in a complete game, leading the Bulldogs in a 5-1 win over previously undefeated Wallkill last Monday.
Connor Hitt, Ketcham track and field
The senior took second in the boys one-mile race (4:41.08) and third in the 800 meters (1:54.31) at the Loucks Games.
Small-school nominees
John Macri, Red Hook boys lacrosse
The Stissing Mountain sophomore scored a career-high 10 goals for the Raiders in a 16-11 win over New Paltz.
Callie Sniffen, Haldane softball
In four games last week, she went 7 for 14 with three homers, two doubles, 11 RBI and seven runs. The junior has 11 home runs already this season.
Owen Schlagler, Marlboro baseball
He had four hits, a walk, scored six runs and drove in four for the Dukes in a 24-14 win over Wallkill in the MHAL semifinal last Saturday.
Yianna Giannoulis, Red Hook girls lacrosse
The Belmont Abbey commit scored five goals, including the 200th of her career, leading the Raiders in a 10-4 win over New Paltz.
Sean Robertson, Marlboro track and field
He took first with a 13-foot pole vault ― a foot ahead of second place — at the Middletown Invitational.
Martin McQuade, Spackenkill baseball
He went 2 for 2 with three RBI and allowed an earned run and struck out five in three innings, leading the Spartans in a win over Pine Plains in the MHAL semifinals.
Mia Merino, Red Hook track and field
The senior won the girls discus throw (98 feet, 4 inches) and placed third in the shot put (29 feet, 9 inches) at the Middletown Invitational.
Jack Maiale, New Paltz baseball
He threw a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, leading the Huguenots in a shutout of Spackenkill.
Luke Weise, Highland boys lacrosse
The freshman totaled five goals and 10 assists in his last three games, each of them victories for the Huskies.
