Patriots RB Burkhead caused Brady's injury
A backfield collision in Wednesday's practice involving Rex Burkhead caused Tom Brady's thumb injury, NFL Network reported Saturday.
Brady wore red gloves on his hands all three days of practice this week as the New England Patriots prepare to play host to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game. Brady reportedly received multiple stitches and his ability to grip the ball could be compromised. But NFL Network also reported players said Brady was firing passes at full strength on Friday, the first day he was a full participant in practice.
A source with knowledge of the situation told NESN.com on Saturday that Brady will "be good" to play Sunday.
Jaguars coach Doug Marrone also fully expects Brady to play.
"Tommy will play. We know that," Marrone told reporters Friday.
When asked Friday how the injury occurred, Brady said only that, "I'm not talking about it."
Patriots coach Bill Belichick said he didn't know if Brady's injury would be a factor and divulged no details on any alteration made to preparing for Jacksonville or the game plan for Sunday's game.
Brady is one of two quarterbacks on the Patriots' roster. The other, Brian Hoyer, is in his second stint with the team and has 37 career starts.
"We're in the same meetings every day. We're sitting right next to each other. So whatever I'm hearing or saying, he's hearing the same thing," Brady said of Hoyer.
New England faces a strong pass rush from the Jaguars, who had 55 sacks in 2017, with Brady and right tackle LaAdrian Waddle (knee) both listed as questionable.
Waddle did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but was listed as limited Friday.
