Palm Desert's Max Margolis takes four-shot lead after Day 1 of DEL boys' golf finals

Palm Desert High School junior Max Margolis fired a 5-under 67 on Tuesday to take the lead after the first day of the Desert Empire League boys' golf individual tournament.

Margolis finished the day at Mission Hills North Golf Course with five birdies and no bogeys to take a four-shot lead over Mason Montgomery of Palm Desert and Benton Sullivan of Xavier Prep heading into Thursday’s final 18 holes. Caden Breisch of Palm Desert is alone in fourth at even-par 72.

The day started with 32 golfers, but only the low 18 players and ties advanced to Thursday's final 18 holes. Of those 18 players who shot 86 or better, the low 10 golfers will advance to CIF-Southern Section individual preliminary play after 36 holes.

Palm Desert, which was undefeated in DEL play this year, will have nine golfers playing in Thursday’s round, while Xavier Prep and La Quinta will each have four golfers and Shadow Hills will have one player.
