OU football legend Ryan Broyles alleges racial incident from campus fraternity house

Former OU wide receiver Ryan Broyles alleged in a series of social media posts Thursday that he was subjected to racial slurs recently on OU’s campus.

Broyles posted that the slur was yelled out of a window from the Kappa Sigma fraternity house as he walked by about two weeks ago.

“I paused, dumbfounded, hurt but not surprised,” Broyles posted on X (formerly Twitter). “My kids were with me. It’s 2024, parents, do better.”

The university confirmed to the Tulsa World that the fraternity had investigated and removed a member based on the incident.

Broyles followed with another post with further details.

Oklahoma's Ryan Broyles (85) runs a punt return in for a touchdown during the second half of the Bedlam college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys (OSU) at the Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in Norman, Okla.

“I will not give this word power over me but I’ll also not let this go lightly,” Broyles posted.

In a later post, Broyles said he would not speak further on the situation.

“There has already been an internal investigation. The names I mentioned have already been identified,” Broyles posted. “There are over 15 witnesses. There has been fault admitted. I simply posted to shed light on the current situation. We can do better!.”

The Norman High product set an NCAA record (since broken) with 349 career receptions from 2008-11 with the Sooners, with 4,586 yards and 45 touchdowns.

He was a second-round NFL Draft pick by the Detroit Lions in 2012 and had 32 catches for 420 yards and two touchdowns during a three-season NFL career.

Since, he’s been involved in real estate in the Norman area.
