NFL Week 5 Sunday Night Football live tracker: Brock Purdy, 49ers roll over Cowboys to remain unbeaten

The 49ers took a 21-7 lead into halftime before cruising to the 42-10 win in the Bay Area

Brock Purdy found George Kittle twice for touchdowns in the first half on Sunday night.

The Iowa connection came alive in the Bay Area on Sunday night.

Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers cruised to a dominant 42-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys in their "Sunday Night Football" matchup. The win kept the 49ers undefeated on the season, and made a statement against what appeared to be one of the better defenses in the league.

Not only did the 49ers largely shut down the Cowboys' offense — except for one perfect drive that resulted in a 26-yard touchdown pass to KaVontae Turpin in the first half — but Purdy hit George Kittle for his first two touchdowns of the seasons in the first half.

The ex-Iowa State quarterback found the former Iowa tight end for a 19-yard touchdown to open the game, which gave them a 7-0 lead. Purdy then hit Kittle again in the second quarter after a pair of laterals in the backfield for a 38-yard score.

That trick play was the same one that the Detroit Lions used earlier in the day, which resulted in another former Iowa tight end scoring a touchdown.

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey then scored a 1-yard touchdown near the end of the half to give them a 14-point lead at the break. It marked the 14th straight game that McCaffrey has found the end zone. Purdy then found Kittle for a third time in the second half, which marked Kittle's first three-touchdown game of his career. They quickly cruised to the 30-point win, and intercepted Prescott three times along the way.

The 49ers joined the Philadelphia Eagles as the only undefeated teams in the league through five weeks.

Purdy finished the night throwing 17-of-24 for 252 yards and four touchdowns. McCaffrey had 51 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries, and Kittle had 67 receiving yards and three touchdowns on three catches. Prescott went 14-of-24 for 153 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. He was replaced by Cooper Rush in the fourth quarter after throwing his third pick.
