Terrell Owens says he's retiring if he doesn't get a job this year
The Seattle Seahawks took the briefest of looks at Terrell Owens last summer.
And the team, which was thin on wide receivers at the time, decided Owens couldn’t help them.
Now, the veteran is hoping for one last chance to play in the NFL. Otherwise, he realizes it will be time to hang ’em up.
“If I don't play this year, I'm retiring,” Owens told Mike Freeman of CBS Sports. “That's just me being realistic. I want to play again. I want to go out on top with a team. I think I can still play, but if I don't sign with a team, it would be time to retire. I have to be honest with myself.
"I'm not chasing a dream. I can still play football. If you're a team looking for a wide receiver and don't think I can play, tell me why. If it's because you don't like me, then that's fine, but don't tell me I can't still play."
In his prime, Owens was as dominant a receiver as there was in the NFL and a touchdown machine. But he’s not the explosive player he once was and he’s long been considered trouble in the locker room.
"I never got into a rhythm in Seattle," Owens, 39, told Freeman. "Just as I was getting to where I wanted to be, they cut me.
“I haven't been given the opportunity to go out the way I should go out.”
Most probably figure that chance is not going to come Owens’ way. But you never know. An injury could always create an opening somewhere.
