Police: Ex-Florida DT Caleb Brantley victim in altercation with woman

Former Florida defensive lineman Caleb Brantley was involved in an altercation early Thursday morning, according to Gainesville Police.

According to a police report obtained by multiple outlets, Brantley was struck in the face multiple times by a woman outside a bar around 2 a.m. Police said Brantley claimed the woman, 20-year-old Chelsea Austin, “approached him and hit him in the face.” He then “pushed her out of his space.” Austin later admitted to hitting Brantley, 22, and said he “disrespected her.”

The police report says “multiple different witnesses corroborated Brantley’s series of events.”

Austin claimed that she was also hit in the face and had a cut on her lip and “some blood around her tooth.” A friend of Austin’s, the report says, blamed Brantley, but Austin did not know who hit her. Brantley, an NFL draft hopeful, was listed as the victim in the police report. He was not injured in the incident and opted not to pursue charges.

Brantley, a defensive tackle, decided to leave Florida a year early for the NFL. In 2016, he had 31 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss. He is listed at No. 42 on Shutdown Corner’s list of Top 50 NFL draft prospects.
