Cardinals 27, Jaguars 14

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- Malcolm Floyd had a career-high 193 yards receiving -- including a 91-yard touchdown in the third quarter that blew the game open -- and the Arizona Cardinals took a step toward solving their road woes Sunday when they beat the one-win Jacksonville Jaguars 27-14.

The Cardinals (6-4) had just one victory on the road before Sunday, but thanks to Floyd's big day -- and 419 passing yards and two TDs from resurgent veteran quarterback Carson Palmer -- Arizona got its second, while also winning its third game in a row.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-5 at home, and they couldn't capitalize on the momentum of last week's first win of the season at Tennessee. Jacksonville has now lost 14 of 15 dating back to last year, although the Jags did record their first TD at home this season after being kept out of the end zone in their previous four contests at EverBank Field and being outscored 89-11.

Jacksonville took the early 7-0 lead when quarterback Chad Henne found tight end Danny Nobles for a 62-yard pass on a fourth-and-1 on the Jags' first drive. It was the first career catch for Nobles, the second-year pro from Toledo who was signed two weeks ago. Nobles' one catch led all Jags wideouts Sunday.

Arizona, however, answered immediately, driving 80 yards on its first possession and capping the 10-play march with a 14-yard TD pass from Palmer to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Jacksonville, which came into the game dead-last in the NFL in scoring, total offense and red-zone efficiency, surprisingly came right back and scored on its second possession. That drive was finished off by running back Maurice Jones-Drew, who crashed in from a yard out to put the Jags ahead, 14-7. It was only the fourth TD of the year for Jones-Drew, who struggled again Sunday and finished with 14 carries for only 23 yards. Jones-Drew has yet to eclipse 75 yards in a game this year.

The Cardinals' defense blanked the Jags in the second quarter, forcing two three-and-outs, and tied the game up at 14-14 before halftime on a 5-yard TD run by Rashard Mendenhall. Mendenhall didn't do much to improve Arizona's 24th-ranked rushing attack, running for just 14 yards on 13 carries.

Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee, who came into the game a perfect 12-of-12 from field goal range, missed his first of the season from 59 yards out on the final play before the half.

Arizona did all the scoring after halftime.

The Cardinals opened the second half with its second 80-yard march of the game, this one ending with a 21-yard field goal by Jay Feeley to give the Cardinals their first lead, 17-14. That was followed by Floyd's 91-yard score, the longest TD pass for the Cardinals since 1988, and a one-time 14-7 Jags lead was now a 24-14 Cardinals advantage.

Henne had his most effective half of the season when he was 13-for-15 passing for 139 yards and a TD before intermission. But he finished 27-for-42 with 255 yards through the air, threw two fourth-quarter interceptions and was sacked twice. The Jags were also a dismal 2 of 14 on third-down conversions.

The Jaguars' defense faced an uphill climb Sunday after star linebacker and leading tackler Paul Posluszny, the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week following his big game last week against Tennessee, was ruled out before kickoff with a concussion he suffered in that game. In his place, Jonathan Cyprien shined for the Jags, leading the way with eight tackles, while cornerback paced the Cardinals with six stops and a pick.

The Jags face Houston on the road next week, while the Cardinals return home and will host Indianapolis.

NOTES: Sunday's game against the Cardinals was the Jaguars' only home contest in November. After playing six of its first nine games away from Jacksonville (including the game vs. the 49ers in London, which counted as a home game) and then facing road games the next two weeks, the Jaguars will play three straight games at home in December. ... The last meeting between the two teams prior to Sunday was in 2009 when the Cardinals won 31-17 behind former quarterback Kurt Warner's NFL-record completion percentage (24 of 26, 92.3 percent). ... The all-time series is now tied 2-2 after the Cardinals won Sunday. ... The Cardinals are now 2-0 in their trips to the East Coast this season after beating Tampa, 13-10, in Week 4. ... Following Sunday's loss, the Jaguars are 8-34 since 2011.
