NAC's season ends in regional final

Nov. 7—STILLWATER — It's a tall task for anyone to knock off the defending state champion.

That's what NAC had to do to advance to the Final Four. They would have to beat Waterford-Halfmoon, with an overall record of 18-1-2 and an astounding +116 goal differential.

It just wouldn't come to be.

While the Fordians defeated the Bobcats, 4-0, Saturday, it doesn't take away from the successful season the team had.

"The girls played a good game," NAC coach Jason Seguin said. "I could not be more proud of this team and what they accomplished this year.

"With only having a couple of subs all season and to see how they played I could not be more proud of them."

The Bobcats didn't let the defeat sour what they've done. For the entire team it was the first time they made it through to the regionals, and as the season progressed they began peaking at the right time to make a deep run.

"They won together as a team, lost together as a team, but most of all they stayed together as a team," Seguin said. "Each and everyone of the girls had a job to do and they did their job."

Keeping the high powered Fordian attack proved too daunting. While it was only a one goal lead at the break, as Waterford's Cassidy McClement gave her team the lead they needed, it felt already like a tall task to overcome.

The Fordians would tack on three more goals in the second period to put the game out of reach and gradually bring the Bobcats season to an end.

With the season complete, NAC finishes with an overall record of 14-4-2.

The Bobcats also had a +29 goal differential, allowing only 21 goals over the campaign.

Seguin said he knew the girls would always remember this season, because it was a special one. He knew he'd always treasure it.

"Our defense was solid all year long, our halfback and line played outstanding," he said. "One thing that makes me proud is these girls stayed together as a team, they were happy for each other, and also picked each other up."
