Mississippi State football in top two for Oak Grove 4-star PJ Woodland

Mississippi State football and coach Zach Arnett are still in the race for one of the top defensive backs in the state. Four-star recruit PJ Woodland narrowed his sights on LSU and the Bulldogs on Thursday.

The Oak Grove standout included Mississippi State, Florida State, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M in his top five in April.

The four-star senior is the No. 32 ranked athlete nationally in the Class of 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite. Woodland is the No. 13 recruit in the state. He also received offers from Ole Miss, Auburn and Arkansas among others.

The 6-foot, 165-pound Woodland finished with 38 tackles and seven interceptions in 12 games. He also had 19 catches for 262 yards and three touchdowns. The cornerback helped lead the Warriors (10-3) to the second round of the MHSAA Class 6A playoffs.

Woodland is one of three Oak Grove players ranked in the top 15 in the state. Four-star defensive lineman Caleb Moore is the No. 14 recruit in the state and has received offers from Alabama, LSU and Mississippi State among others. Texas A&M commitment Anthony Maddox is the No. 15 recruit in Mississippi.
