Miller and Pitts roll 300 games. See the latest high scores from Corning's Crystal Lanes

It was a tale of two bowlers in the conquest of perfection at Crystal Lanes this week when Johnny Miller and Jim Pitts both registered 300 games.

Johnny Miller, not to be confused with the retired PGA Hall of Famer, recorded his first perfect game while competing in the Corning Bowling Association. He capped the night in the Joey’s Contracting Mixed League when his last 12 shots in the pocket all carried for a 300 game.

It was sharp contrast to the beginning of his night. After an opening 170 game, Johnny made a couple of adjustments on his way to a 254 second effort. And a perfect adjustment at the end of the evening resulted in the 300 game as he finished with a 724 series.

Johnny was one of a trio of seven-shooters in Joey’s League. Jamie Kennedy led the way when he capped a 744 set with a 267 game and Corey Miller shook off a shaky start with games of 278 and 260 for a 726 series.

One night later in the Tire World of Corning Men’s League, Jim Pitts did what he does every year. He threw a 300 game. He’s been doing this ever since he was a young lad. He got off to a chilly start on lanes 31 and 32 with a 220 game.

Off went the sweatshirt and in the 1-3 pocket he went. Twelve shots later, Jim had his 300 game for this season. He tacked on a 203 for a 723 set. Jim has well over 125 perfect games which, in part, has earned him a spot in the Elmira Bowling Hall of Fame and the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame.

This week, Jim had plenty of 700 company in the Tire World League. Joe Crown opened and closed a 740 series with a 279 game to pace this league. Al Farr’s 736 featured a 290 game while JR Fleming rolled a 267 game on his way to a 726. Jim Sjoblom added a 712 set while Mike Kosinski powered his way to a 709 and Ricky Pruden came away with a 703 series.

Scoring honors for the week goes to Jamie Kennedy and his effort in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League. He put together games of 280, 257 and 237 for a 774 series. In the same league, Al Farr tossed a 717 set that was highlighted by a 278 game. On the same night, in the Jubilee Foods Mixed League, Bob McGinnis three-deuced his way to a 710 while Ron Bush took the same route on his way to a 706 series.

Seven familiar names appeared in the Hatfield Real Estate League list of seven-shooters. Nick Dobson led the way with a 757 that included a pair of 269 games. Jamie Kennedy was at it again when he capped a 750 set with a 289 game while teammates Mike Brewster and Jason Huntley posted scores of 725 and 713 respectively. Ron Gunn fired a 279 final game for a 708 series. Mike Kosinki matched the Gunner with his own 708.

In other men’s action, Doug Madison mowed down 733 pins to pace the Sun Legends Bar & Grille Mixed League while Don Pierce topped the Atlas Pizzeria Mixed League with a 726 set that featured a 279 game. Mike Smith and Ben Weiskopff paced the Addison Men’s League with scores of 716 and 701 respectively.

Hughson's 717 series leads seniors

It was a bit of a slow week for the top scores on the senior front, but don’t tell Mike Hughson. Mike got going early in the Chilson-Wilcox Senior Men’s League with a 249 game and never let up on the gas. He followed that opener with a 224 game and closed the session with a 244 game for a 717 series.

Three other fellows in the C-W League also topped six. Bruce Stanton led this trio with a 689 set on games of 248, 197 and 244. Mike Dunn rode three deuces to a 683 series and Daryl Cevette capped a 616 set with a 233 game.

In other senior league action, Don Pierce put together games of 233, 245 and 204 to pace the Go-Getters Senior Mixed League and Ken Crozier topped the Striking Seniors Mixed League with a 622 series.

Goodier gets first junior 700

It turned out to be a memorable afternoon in the CIBS Jr./Sr. Mixed League for Bentley Goodier when he cashed in his first 700 in junior league play. And it was nearly a perfect start. Bentley opened the session with the first eleven strikes before leaving a couple of pins on his last shot for a 298 game. He followed that near-perfect game with a 243 before running into a little trouble in game three 168 effort. But, it was still enough to card a 709 total.

And then the usual crew of six-shooters also showed up. Camryn Stefanini paced this half-dozen with a 668 series that included a 247 game. Cameron Kennedy flipped three deuces on his way to a 658 while Zack Crown rolled a 643 and Zachery Sturdevant hit the 628 mark. Peyton Nelson’s 613 and 609 series by Michael Rennels closed the scoring for the junior six-shooters.

In other junior bowling action, Brooke Bauman hit 100 on the nose in the CIBA Bumper League.

Eleven ladies top 600 series

Not a bad week for the ladies. There were no 700s for the gals but they posted plenty of 600s coming from six different leagues throughout the week.

Cheryl Rice led this 600 parade with her performance in the Giardina Building & Remodeling Ladies League. She was steady as a rock all night with games of 227, 224 and 236 for a 687 series. In the same league, Deon Frost tossed a 236 game on her way to a 648 series while Anita Gennosa capped a 644 set with a 246 game and Heather Farr kicked off a 637 total with a 257 game. Deon also led the ladies in Joey’s Mixed League with a 621 total.

Heather then went to the Atlas Pizzeria Mixed League and paced the gals in that loop. She sandwiched a 246 game with a 217 opener and 204 closer for a 667 series. Cheryl Rice notched her second six of the week with a 644 while Gwen Bain tossed a 605 and Jean Orchowski snuck in a 602 series.

Hailey Blencowe paced the Savona Storage League yet again when she converted games of 193, 246 and 223 into a 662 series. Anita Gennosa added her second six of the week when she led the ladies in the Gary Cortright Memorial Mixed League with a 641 series and Samantha Blanford topped the gals in the Jubilee Foods Mixed League with a 605 series.
