Cailie Logue stands alone as Iowa State's most decorated Big 12 Conference champion. Now the native of Erie, Kan., and Ames resident stands alone in the Iowa road racing record books.

The Iowa State graduate student claimed victory at the fourth annual Blazing 5K at Water Works Park in Des Moines on Sunday and leads off this edition of the WEEKEND UPDATE of the best performances by Iowa-based collegiate and postcollegiate distance runners and triathletes.

Logue rolled to victory over the 3.1-mile course in 15:55 to win by 22 seconds and topple one of the longest records in Iowa road racing history. Logue eclipsed the previous Iowa women's record of 16:04 set by former Iowa Hawkeye great Nan Doak, 30, of Coralville at the Cedar Rapids YMCA race in 1992.

The six-time NCAA All-American picked up $900 total for the 5K win, taking the Back Loop Challenge in 7:41, setting a new course record and earning a time bonus. Logue ended her eligibility with All-American honors in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in June.

Finishing a strong second was former Des Moines Roosevelt prep star and Drake University 1,500, 5,000 and 10,000 record holder Emma Huston of Des Moines. Huston ran 16:17 after running the Back Loop Challenge in 7:48. That time ties Huston for the fourth-best time in Iowa history with former Cyclone Ashley Tutt, who won last year's Blazing 5K. Huston has a U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials qualifying time from last December's California International Marathon when she ran 2:34:28.

Rounding out the top three was Runablaze Iowa's Pasca Myers, the 2014 Grandma's Marathon champion, in 16:40. Myers is now seventh best in Iowa history. She resides in Ames. Ehlers, a current Morningside assistant coach and native of Ida Grove, ran 14:21, a 4:37 pace. Ehlers' time is now tied for fourth best in Iowa history with former Iowa standout Kevin Herd, run in Iowa City in 1994. Ehlers also ran the second-best time ever in Runablaze history, trailing only 2020 winner Jay Welp by two seconds. He was 10 seconds behind Rasmussen in the Back Loop Challenge after running 6:53. Rasmussen, a Lincoln, Neb., resident, ran 14:16 for the 5K.

"One of the fastest Iowan Road Races 5K of all time and something I thought would take years - my team and I managed to get to in a year," Ehlers wrote in Instagram. "I have a lot more racing in front of me and a lot bigger barriers to break. Thanks to all who made it possible. It’s been a year I’ll never forget and we are just getting started."

Placing fourth and running just four seconds slower than his sixth-best time ever run in Iowa road racing history was Austin O'Brien of Waukee. O'Brien ran 14:26 while nipping his Runablaze Iowa teammate, Blake Whalen, by one second. O'Brien is a former Pleasant Valley prep and Central College star.
