Minnesota guard Gabe Kalscheur announced Saturday that he's transferring to Iowa State for his senior season, the first of several expected departures from the Gophers following their coaching change. Kalscheur said on Twitter he was excited about "the next chapter and fresh start" for his college career with the Cyclones. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Kalscheur is a native of Minnesota who was recruited by new Gophers coach Ben Johnson, who was an assistant at the time.
Iowa State's Ashley Joens earned a prestigious honor on Sunday, as the Cyclones' junior was named the winner of the 2021 Cheryl Miller Award, given to the top small forward in Division I. “It is such an honor to be the recipient of this award,” Joens said in an Iowa State press release. Cheryl Miller had an amazing career that helped pave the way for women’s basketball, not only on the court, but off the court as well.
