Michigan State football gets defensive lineman Simeon Barrow back from transfer portal

EAST LANSING — Two days after entering the transfer portal, Simeon Barrow has withdrawn his name.

A program spokesman Thursday evening confirmed the Michigan State football defensive tackle no longer is in the portal.

The redshirt junior defensive tackle will travel with the team to Minneapolis, per interim head coach Harlon Barnett on his weekly radio show, as the Spartans take on Minnesota at Huntington Bank Stadium (3:30 p.m., Big Ten Network).

The oft-injured Barrow left Saturday’s 49-0 loss to No. 2 Michigan in the first quarter, but he returned and finished with two tackles. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound native of Grovetown, Georgia, has 19 stops and 1½ sacks in seven games this season, six of them starts. He has started 25 of his 28 games as a Spartan since 2021, with 93 tackles and 8½ sacks, after sitting out his true freshman season in 2020 out of precaution during the coronavirus pandemic.

MSU has four players who left the team for the transfer portal: offensive lineman Keyshawn Blackstock, running back Jordon Simmons, long snapper Hank Pepper and defensive back Justin White.

Every Spartan player received an immediate option to enter the transfer portal for 30 days after Tucker’s firing, per NCAA rules. They also could decide to return to MSU once a new coach is hired.
