Michigan hockey embarrasses Michigan State, 9-0, in Ann Arbor

The 326th edition of college hockey's most-played rivalry was over almost immediately Friday night at Yost Ice Arena.

No. 9-ranked Michigan (6-5, 4-5-0-1-0 Big Ten) netted three goals in the opening 11:34 and nine different Wolverines scored in their 9-0 shutout of Michigan State.

It was their fifth-straight victory over the Spartans (4-5-2, 3-5-1-2-0) dating back to last season and first league win since beating Penn State 3-1 on Dec. 2.

The rivals play again Saturday at MSU (4:30 p.m., Big Ten Network).

Nick Blankenburg followed that goal with one at 9:47 and Beecher scored to give the Wolverines a 3-0 advantage entering the first intermission.

Michael Pastujov tapped in a goal fewer than four minutes into the second. Four minutes later, it was Garrett Van Wyhe scoring to give Michigan a 5-0 lead.
