Michigan high school bowling: Thrilling finish in Division 2 boys; Macomb Dakota girls win

The stakes could get no higher in the Division 2 boys bowling individual championship at Super Bowl in Canton.

Defending champion Kyle Pranger of Grand Rapids Northview met Gibraltar Carlson's Zack Sisk in the final. Both scored a 409 in their two-game final.

In the extra frames, Sisk won by one pin, 60-59, to become a state champion.

Several other Michigan high school bowlers became new state champions across the state on Saturday.

Also at Super Bowl, Whitehall's Karli Vandunen defeated Wayland's Bella Harnish, 480-381. The senior saved her best for the final after scoring 409, 357 and 441 in the previous three rounds on Saturday.

In Division 1 at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Livonia Franklin's Ian Wright pulled off a comeback. Trailing after the first game, 199-195 to Davison's Jared Musser, Wright rolled a 205 to win the state title by nine pins. He scored a 469, 469 and 419 in the three rounds Saturday before the final.

Division 3's championships were held at JAX 60 in Jackson, where Cheboygan's Cole Swanberg and Croswell-Lexington's Brooklyn Butler won states. Swanberg outlasted Ogenaw Heights' Tyler Downs in the boys final, 471-337, and Butler beat defending champion Elizabeth Teuber of Flint Powers, 481-408.

Division 2's state champions are the Grand Rapids Northview boys (outlasting Tecumseh in the final) and the Flint Kearsley girls, which continued its dominance, claiming its ninth state crown in the last 11 years. Kearsley, led by first-year coach Kailee Tubbs, beat Mason in the final for the second straight year.

The Gladwin boys topped Midland Bullock Creek and the Shepherd girls topped Cheboygan in Division 3. It's the second state title for Gladwin and first for Shepherd.

In Division 4, Grass Lake boys (Division 3 champions last year) and girls each made the final, but Plymouth Christian boys and Bronson girls came away with the top trophies. It was first title for Christian and the third in the last four years for Bronson.
