Mets OF Cespedes day-to-day with quad injury

Mets left fielder Yoenis Cespedes left New York's game Sunday against the Colorado Rockies after the first inning due to right quadriceps tightness.

The team first announced that Cespedes had a hip ailment, but the outfielder clarified the injury after the 3-2 loss to the visiting Rockies. His status is day-to-day.

"(Saturday) when I hit a ground ball into a double play, I felt that my quad was a little bit tight," he said through a translator. "(Sunday) I warmed up but I felt it again. ... I just made a decision as a precaution to (leave the game to) avoid any serious injuries."

Cespedes helped spark the Mets' two-run first inning when he hit a single for the second of three straight hits to open the game. Television replays showed him tapping his hip at first base, though he was able to run from first to third on Asdrubal Cabrera's single before trotting home on a sacrifice fly by Todd Frazier.

Cespedes was replaced by Brandon Nimmo for the top of the second inning.

A variety of leg injuries limited Cespedes to just 213 games the previous two seasons. He has played in all 32 games this season, producing a .246 average with seven homers and 26 RBIs.
