Matthew Stafford declined chance to be on Netflix’s ‘Quarterback’ series

One of the most popular shows on Netflix right now is “Quarterback”, a docuseries that follows the season of Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota in 2022. Not only does it show what those three quarterbacks go through on the field, but it also documents their lives off it.

As fun as it would’ve been for Rams fans to see Matthew Stafford featured on the show, the veteran quarterback didn’t have much interest in it. As noted by Turf Show Times, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, said Matthew was approached by Netflix about being on “Quarterback” but he declined.

Not only was Stafford dealing with an injury that he didn’t want to disclose to everyone, but he also didn’t want to put his teammates through a situation where there would be cameras around documenting the season.

Stafford apparently won’t rule out being on the show in the future after seeing how Season 1 went, but he didn’t want to be one of the first quarterbacks to be on it.

“They approached Matthew last year for this show. He turned it down. We’ve said no to quite a few approaches on reality tv shows. You guys know how private my husband is. You know how I’m not private. (expletive) I have a podcast explaining my entire life. But it’s also, I respect that. The only reason they’re approaching us is because of him, so I don’t fight it. Plus, it’s not my cup of tea (when it’s a) family show. Not my cup of tea because I don’t want to expose my girls in that way. But ‘Quarterback’ is different. He didn’t do it for a couple reasons. He’s private, he also didn’t want to put his teammates through it. It was also the first year, he wanted it to kind of figure itself out so he knows what all to expect. He’s like, ‘I don’t want my teammates to deal with cameras in the locker room. Here, there, whatever.’ Which I respect. I love that he thinks of those things. But I think with a season under the belt, we’ll see. I think he’ll reconsider.

“He was also dealing with that injury. He didn’t want to disclose all of that to world. He passed.”

Stafford isn’t a quarterback who puts his entire life out there for the world to see. He hasn’t been on Twitter in more than a decade and he just made an Instagram account last year – and has only posted six times.

It’s hardly surprising he didn’t want to be on camera all season long, and it would’ve been particularly painful considering the year he and the Rams endured post-Super Bowl. He would’ve made a ton of sense as a focal point of the show after just winning a Super Bowl and entering his second season in L.A., but it’s understandable that he passed on the opportunity.
