Marshwood's Andre Clark sets state record at SMAA championship meet

GORHAM – Andre Clark is the fastest high school sprinter in the history of Maine.

The Marshwood High School junior broke the state record in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.39 seconds at Saturday’s Southern Maine Activities Association championship meet at the University of Southern Maine.

Clark didn’t stop there.

He won the 200 (22.76) and anchored the 4x200-meter relay, which placed second in 1:34.66, setting a new Marshwood school record. Clark also was named the Boys Athlete of the Meet by league coaches.

Marshwood scored 72 points and placed seventh in the 17-team meet.

Marshwood’s Isaiah Perodin placed second in both the triple jump (42 feet, 5.75 inches) and long jump (20-5.25) and was third in the 55-meter hurdles (7.94). He was selected as the most improved senior division outstanding athlete of the season.

Marshwood’s Harrison Page was third in the 400 (52.83), seventh in the 55 (6.78). Henri Rivard was fifth in the mile in a school-record breaking time of 4:31.20. Rivard was selected as the junior division outstanding athlete of the season,

In the pole vault, Marshwood’s Shayne Sandler was fourth (10-6), Noah Tessier was sixth (10-0) and Cam Marquis was seventh (10-0).  Tessier also was seventh in the high jump (5-4).

Other Marshwood medalists included Braeden Gagnon (fifth, 200, 24.49,), Luke Nelson (seventh, 600, 1:23.57), and Micaiah Perodin who ran a leg on the runner-up 4x200 relay.

Marshwood's Coomey wins conference title in 600

In the girls meet, Marshwood scored 28 points and placed 13th in the 17-team field. Aoife Coomey won the conference title in the 600 in a time of 1:34.23. Riley Smith placed fourth in the 55 hurdles (9.94), and was seventh in both the pole vault (7-6) and high jump (4-6).

Marshwood’s Maya Sanzone was third in the two-mile (12:10.61) and sixth in the mile (5:39.49), and Lillian Peterson was fourth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 27-7.5. Sanzone was named the most improved junior division outstanding athlete of the season.
