LSU women's basketball to play Grambling State next season in Bossier City

The first piece of LSU women's basketball's upcoming 2024-25 nonconference schedule has officially been put into place.

LSU will take on Grambling State at the Brookshire Grocery Arena Sunday, Dec. 8 this season, a game that'll bring LSU standout and current SEC Freshman of the Year Mikaylah Williams back home for a game in Bossier City.

Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission partnered with Russ Potts Production Inc. to assist in putting on the game. Tickets for the matchup will go on sale in the summer, per an LSU release.

A year after capturing its first NCAA championships, LSU made a run to the Elite Eight last season where it fell to Caitlin Clark and Iowa in Albany, New York.

It's been known for some time that LSU and Grambling were going to play this season as LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey eluded to the fact last season that the two programs were working together on identifying a date that would work for both in the 2024-25 season to make it happen.

“We could not be more excited to bring LSU to Mikaylah’s hometown of Bossier City in December to play Grambling State,” Mulkey said in a release. “Mikaylah grew up there and it is always special to be able to bring one of our players back to play in their hometown. She has a lot of fans in North Louisiana that have been following her for a long time and will want to come and see her along with the rest of our team.

"Furthermore, it is always great to be able to bring LSU to different parts of the state because there are people that bleed purple and gold all across Louisiana.”

Williams graduated from Parkway High School, where she was the No. 2 rated prospect in the 2023 recruiting class and a two-time Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year award winner.

During her freshman season at LSU last year, Williams averaged 14.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game on the way to claiming the top freshman honor in the Southeastern Conference.

Grambling State won 23 games last season, the most the women's basketball team has won in 21 years, and defeated Oral Roberts in the first round of the WNIT.
