LOCAL ROUNDUP: Salt Fork baseball rallies to beat Danville

Mar. 30—CATLIN — The Salt Fork baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to get the 6-5 win over Danville on Thursday.

Braxton Clem had two hits for the Storm, while Jameson Remole had a RBI triple, Brandon Norton had a RBI double and Hayden Knight had two RBIs.

Cameron Feuerborn had two hits and a RBI for the Vikings, while Grady Devors had a RBI and Ty Rangel, Brody Boyd and Marvin Davis II each had two hits.

The Vikings are 0-5 and will face Hoopeston Area on Saturday, while the Storm will face Armstrong-Potomac on Monday.

ROSSVILLE, Ind. — The Blue Devils made the most of their trip to Indiana by holding on to a win over Rossville.

Cruz Dubois had two hits and a RBI for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, while Jordan Johnson, Chaz Dubois and Micah Stanford each had one RBI.

The Blue Devils were coming off a 11-1 win over Fisher on Thursday. Johnson had three hits and three RBIs for the Blue Devils, while Cruz Dubois had two hits with a home run and three RBIs, Chaz Dubois had three hits, winning pitcher Anderson Thomas had two hits and a RBI and Caden Keleminic had one RBI.

BHRA will take on Tri-County today.

Oakwood 14, Heritage 9

OAKWOOD — The Oakwood baseball team and Heritage had a back and forth battle with Heritage in the first three innings, but was able to pull away for a 14-9 win on Thursday.

Jackson Dudley had three triples and three RBIs for the Comets, who were tied with the Hawks 9-9 after the third innings, while Chase Dudley had two hits and three RBIs, Cort Vermillion had three hits and two RBIs and Derek Drews, Bryson Marcinko, Brody Taflinger and Cooper Hutson each had one RBI.

Loudyn Hughes had seven strikeouts in four innings to get the win for the Comets.

On Friday, the Comets played Paxton-Buckley-Loda and lost 9-3. Chase Harrison had three hits with a RBI and Marcinko had an RBI.

The Comets are 4-5 and will face Okaw Valley today.

CHAMPAIGN — The Tigers scored three runs in the sixth to get the lead in beating the Maroons on Friday.

Matt Darling had three RBIs for Westville, while Drew Wichtowski and Easton Barney each had two hits and a RBI and Cameron Steinbaugh and Zach Russell each had two hits.

The Tigers were coming off a 10-10 tie with Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Thursday.

Darling had three hits and three RBIs for the Tigers, while Barney had two hits and two RBIs, Ben Johnson had two RBIs, Russell had two hits and a RBI, Wichtowski and Cade Schaumburg each had one RBI and Steinbaugh had three hits.

The Tigers will play Hoopeston Area on Monday.

Hoopeston Area 13, Ridgeview 2

COLFAX — The Hoopeston Area baseball team had 10 hits as it beat Colfax-Ridgeview 13-2 on Thursday.

Wyatt Eisenmann had two hits and three RBIs for the Cornjerkers, while Keygan Field had a double and three RBIs, Zach Huchel had two hits with a double and an RBI, Dallas Sheppard had two RBIs and Cole Miller had one RBI.

Dylan Judy had nine strikeouts on the mound for Hoopeston Area, who are 5-4 and will face Danville on Saturday.

S. Putnam 4, N. Vermillion 1

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The North Vermillion baseball team was down 5-0 in the second inning and could not recover as the Falcons lost 7-1 to South Putnam in the team's season opener.

Gavin Bean had a double for the Falcons, while Jerome White, Aden Rangel, Wyatt Walters and Emmit Klugow each had one hit.

The Falcons will try to get a win on Tuesday against Westville.

PREP SOFTBALL

Westville 12, A-P 0

WESTVILLE — The Tigers had 10 hits as they beat the Trojans in five innings on Friday.

Layla Atwood had three hits with a solo home run for Westville, while Lani Gondzur had three hits and two RBIs, Laney Cook had two RBIs and McKynze Carico, Danika Hamer and Addison Briggs each had one RBI.

Lilly Kiesel had eight strikeouts on the mound for the Tigers, who was coming off a 5-1 win over Champaign Centennial on Thursday.

Abby Sabalaskey gave up a run in the first inning, but had 18 strikeouts and gave up only one hit on the mound for the Tigers, while Atwood, Kiesel and Sabalaskey each had two hits and an RBI at the plate.

The Tigers are 9-1 and will face Hoopeston Area on Monday.

Elle Jameson had two hits for Armstrong-Potomac, who have lost two straight games after losing 4-2 to Rantoul on Thursday. Carly Grant had a home run and two RBIs while Jameson had two hits with a double.

The Trojans will face Salt Fork on Monday.

Homewood-Flossmoor 13, Danville 1

RANTOUL — The Vikings had three hits, but could not do much more against Homewood-Flossmoor at the Rantoul Tournament.

Maya Gagnon had the lone RBI for Danville, while Gracie Briggs, Kay'Leah Bellik and losing pitcher Kendall Rannebarger each had one hit.

The Vikings will continue tournament play today.

Dunlap 6, BHRA 2

BISMARCK — The Blue Devils were down 5-0 after the first inning and could not catch up in losing to the Eagles.

Raeghan Dickison had two hits with an RBI for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, while Eva Ronto had an RBI.

ALAH 15, Geo-RF 6

GEORGETOWN — The Buffaloes were out-hit 18-8 as they lost at home to Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond.

Alexa Weston had two RBIs for Georgetown-Ridge Farm, while Chloe Winslow had two hits and a RBI and Emma Fitzwater had an RBI.

The Buffaloes are 1-3 overall and will take on Milford on Monday.

Paris 5, Salt Fork 4

PARIS — The Salt Fork softball team had the early lead, but could not hold on as the Storm lost to Paris 5-4.

Macie Russell had two RBIs for the Storm, while Ava Ringstrom had a RBI and Alexa Jamison and Karli McGee each had two hits with a double.

The Storm are 3-3 and will play LeRoy on Saturday.

GIBSON CITY — The Hoopeston Area softball team had eight hits, but Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley had 20 hits as the Falcons won 16-6 in five innings.

Maddie Barnes had two hits and a RBI, while Macy Warner, Aubreyana Inman and Addyson Kelnhofer each had one RBI and Jersey Cundiff had two hits.

The Cornjerkers are 6-2 and will face Westville on Monday.

S. Newton 16, N. Vermillion 2

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The North Vermillion softball team started its season opener with a run in the first inning.

But South Putnam scored 11 runs in the bottom of the inning and would go on to beat the Falcons 16-2.

Izabel Starwalt and Willow Campbell each had one RBI for the Falcons, who will return to action on Tuesday against Westville.

BHRA girls win at kickoff

PAXTON — The Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin girls track team won the team title at the Paxton-Buckley-Loda preseason kickoff on Thursday.

Most of the Blue Devil girls wins were in the relays as the 400 team of Aubrey Peters, Emily Dice, Nevaeh Scott and Amber-Christine Reed won in 52.95, the 800 team of Peters, Natalie Thomason, Scott and Reed won in 1:53.78 and the 1,600 team of Peters, Thomason, Scott and Reed won in 4:29.57.

Aleah Potter won the 3,200 (12:52) and was third in the 1,600 (6:05), Thomason won the high jump (1.52m) and Ella McFarland won the triple jump (10.49m).

Reis McFarland was second in the shot put (8.89m) and discus (26.95, while Reed was second in the long jump (4.42m), Peters was third in the 100 hurdles (18.61), and Mackenzie Stow was fourth in the 100 (15.07) and sixth in the 200 (30.75).

The boys team was third behind Ridgeview and Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley. Ayden Ingram won the 400 (53.85) and the high jump (1.72m) and was second in the 100 (12.21) and 200 (23.82).

Payton Wallace was second in the 800 (2:13.41), Devin Stroud was second in the 3,200 (12:20) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:35), Gavin High was third in the 200 (25.41) and fourth in the 100 (12.66), while Landyn Wendell was third in the shot put (12.20m), Dylan Davis was fourth in the long jump (5.26m),.

The 400 team of Mason Chowning, Eli Godwin, Davis and High took second (47.06) and the 800 team of Brendan Whitney, Marcus Schreiner, Collin Hardin and Mason Cunningham also took second (1:45.22).

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

DACC swept by Parkland

CHAMPAIGN — The Danville Area Community College softball team battled rival Parkland on Thursday and lost both games of a doubleheader.

The Jaguars lost to the Cobras 4-1 in the first game with Kaylee Kline hitting a solo home run as the lone highlight and Rylee Richey had eight strikeouts on the mound.

In the second game, the Cobras had 14 hits in a 16-1 five-inning win. Kline had another homer for DACC, while Alyssa Acton and Gloria Richardson each had one hit.

The Lady Jaguars will play Lincoln Land Community College on Saturday.
