Lenawee County high school sports roundup from Feb. 5-10

The winter postseason is upon us as wrestling gets into district matchups this week while the rest of the sports regular seasons are winding down.

Here's what's going on this week in Lenawee County high school sports:

MONDAY

Boys Basketball

Onsted 81, Blissfield 71

ONSTED — Ayden Davis had a triple-double with 37 points, 24 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.

Also for Onsted (12-4, 8-1 LCAA), Rylan Henagan had 12 points and four assists, JT Hill had 11 points, seven assists and four steals and Aidan Paquin had 11 points and six assists.

For Blissfield (9-7, 6-4 LCAA), Gabe Schnoor had 20 points, Chet Meyer added 16, Mason Case had 15 and Blake Wood chipped in with 11.

Clinton 54, Hillsdale 52

CLINTON — Jalen Stelzer led Clinton with 17 points. Andy Fair (10 points) and Calen Keith (10 points) also reached double figures.

Clinton is 7-9 and 4-6 in the LCAA.

Hanover-Horton 75, Addison 42

HORTON — Gavin Gibson scored 10 points for Addison while Jaxen Sword had nine points.

The Panthers are 4-13 overall and 2-12 in the Cascades Conference.

Bowling

Tecumseh at Adrian

ADRIAN — The Tecumseh boys and girls bowling teams took down its rival Adrian with the boys winning 27-3 while girls won in a shutout, 30-0.

Wendy Ketola and Brooke Kosco led the girls with games of 206 and 200 respectively while the boys were led by Kaden Salts games of 268 and 223.

Xander Finkbeiner led the Maples boys with games of 220 and 172 while Carter Allen had a 179. Sydney Chesher rolled a 178.

Gymnastics

Adrian 123.875, East Lansing 118.6

ADRIAN — The Maples picked up a home win led by Haylee Vore.

Adrian's depth was the difference as the only first place the Maples got was from Vore in the 8.65 while Reese Beauleaux was second in the vault (8.5), bars (7.875) and beam (8.95) and third on the floor (8.925) to take second in the all-around (34.25).

Girls Basketball

Whiteford 61, Britton Deerfield 31

BRITTON — Lily Watson scored 10 points for the Patriots in a loss to Whiteford.

BD is 2-13 and 1-8 in the TCC.

TUESDAY

Boys Basketball

Lenawee Christian 50, Erie Mason 26

ADRIAN — The Eagles slowed things down early, but LCS was able to overcome the slow pace and Brandon Summer passed 1,000 career points.

Jaxen Salenbien led LCS (13-2, 8-1 TCC) with 19 points, Summer added 18.

Britton Deerfield 61, Sand Creek 50

SAND CREEK — Britton Deerfield built a big early lead and hung on for the win.

Logan Shiels scored 23 points, Colin Johnson had 14 and Brayden Shiels added 10 for BD (13-5, 6-5 TCC).

The Aggies (8-8, 3-6 TCC) were led by Rory Eack with 21 points. Parker Bowles scored 13 and Trevor Opel had 11 points and nine rebounds.

Tecumseh 43, Ypsilanti 40

YPSILANTI — Tecumseh came from being down four to start the fourth quarter and won.

Ryan Mossburg scored 17 points and Ryan Barrie added 10 for Tecumseh (13-3, 3-2 SEC White).

Chelsea 70, Adrian 62

CHELSEA — The Bulldogs got off to a big start and beat the Maples for the second time this season.

Stevie Elam led the Maples (12-3, 3-2 SEC White) with 29 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sean Parker had 12 points and Tristan Hayes had eight points.

Summerfield 73, Hudson 27

HUDSON — Jackson Jones had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Hudson in the non-league game.

The Tigers fell to 1-15 on the season.

Whiteford 80, Morenci 28

MORENCI — The Bulldogs didn’t have anyone in double figures and lost for the 13th straight game.

Shamus Alcock led Morenci (1-16, 0-10 TCC) with seven points.

Girls Basketball

Onsted 45, Hudson 29

ONSTED — The Wildcats got 13 points from JayElle Christian and 12 from Karli Kimerer in the LCAA win.

Onsted improved to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in LCAA.

Taylor Kopin finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and four steal for the Tigers (5-8, 3-5).

Blissfield 57, Dundee 15

DUNDEE — All 11 Royals scored, including Avery Collins, who scored 11 points.

Blissfield is 11-2 overall and 8-0 in the LCAA and alone in first place.

Madison 49, Clinton 43

CLINTON — Madison has 13 wins on the season after downing Clinton.

Jaeda Parish scored 17 points, making four 3-pointers.

Clinton, who led 32-30 going into the fourth quarter, was led by Zoey Sierer’s 19 points.

Madison is 13-3 and 8-2 in the LCAA. Clinton is 6-6 and 3-5.

Tecumseh 75, Ypsilanti 35

YPSILANTI — Alli Zajac scored 28 points to lead Tecumseh to the win.

In addition to Zajac’s scoring, Chloe Bullinger had 19 points and Makayla Schlorf added 15. Tecumseh is now 11-3 and 5-0 in SEC White play.

Michigan Center 65, Addison 34

MICHIGAN CENTER — The Panthers fell to the state-ranked Cardinals.

Kayli Trumble led Addison (4-12, 2-9 Cascades) with 10 points.

Chelsea 68, Adrian 21

ADRIAN — The Bulldogs put up 31 in the first quarter as they downed the Maples in SEC White play.

Adrian (6-7, 2-4 SEC White) got six points from Ella Salenbien.

Boys Swimming

Dundee 98, Tecumseh 82

DUNDEE — Tecumseh lost a tight dual with the Vikings.

Brayden DePew took second in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles.

WEDNESDAY

Wrestling

Division 3 district at Clinton

CLINTON — The fifth-ranked Redwolves defended their home mat as they beat Madison in the final, 55-16, after beating Onsted, 62-15, while the Trojans beat Blissfield, 56-22.

Leading Clinton was Wyatt Hicks (215 pounds), Hamza Rafferty (285), Braylon Long (126), Connor Younts (132), Maurice Ames (138), Dylan Badge (144), Cliff Jones (150) and Bryce Randolph (165/175) as the group went 2-0 on the day.

Madison got 2-0 days from Jacob Byrd (106) and Malaki Mosher (113) while Lucas Dopp (120) got a pin in the dual against Clinton to go 1-0.

Blissfield got wins from Nolan Wilson (215), Gage Rothman (132), Adam Stutzman (157) and Ethan Hilyard (190) while Onsted got wins from Keegan Gray (120), Dylan England (157) and Hunter Kangas (190).

Division 4 district at Hudson

HUDSON — The Tigers rolled against Reading as they claimed yet another district title, 64-15.

Picking up pins for Hudson were Chase Clark (113), Nicholas Sorrow (120), Owen Loop (126), Julien Kimling (132), Cole Marry (138), Coy Perry (144), Austin Marry (150) and Cameron Miller (285) while Jaxton Kimling (106) got a major decision and Bradley Bertram (157) and Logan Ryan (190) won by void.

Division 4 at Vandercook Lake

VANDERCOOK LAKE — Addison claimed a district crown after topping Hanover Horton, 45-33.

The Comets beat Vandercook Lake in the semifinal, 54-6, while the Panthers had a bye.

Boys Basketball

Britton Deerfield 55, Waldron 23

WALDRON – Ten different Patriots scored at least a point in win No. 14 on the season for BD.

Ryan Good scored 13, Logan Shiels added nine and Owen Plum put up eight as the Patriots moved to 14-5.

BOWLING

Britton Deerfield at Morenci

The Patriots rolled to a 30-0 win to improve to 6-0 in the TCC.

Mason Cuolahan had games of 213 and 236 while Hunter Mahan rolled a 202 and Ben Islay had a 203.

Adrian at Pinckney

WHITMORE LAKE — The Maples split a pair of duals as the boys rolled to a 28-2 win while the girls fell, 23-7.

Leading the boys were Austin Garcia with a 157 while Aiden Voekle rolled a 155.

Sydney Chesher rolled a 193 to lead the girls.

Girls Basketball

Waldron 35, Britton Deerfield 32

WALDRON — The Spartans picked up the win despite trailing most of the game.

BD (2-14) was led by Lily Watson, who scored 10 points.

Gymnastics

Jackson Area 134.525, Adrian 126.525

ADRIAN — The Maples fell to a strong Jackson Area team by eight points.

Leading Adrian was Reese Beauleux as she took second in the bars (8.0) and floor (9.0) and third in the beam (33.775) and fourth in the vault (8.625) to take third in the all-around (33.775). Haylee Vore was third on the vault (8.875).

Hockey

Walled Lake Western Pinckney 6, Lenawee 0

CHELSEA — Injuries plagued Lenawee as it fell to the co-op of Walled Lake Western-Pinckney in a non-league shutout.

United is 14-7-1 on the season.

THURSDAY

Wrestling

Division 2 District at Adrian

ADRIAN — Adrian took down rival Tecumseh, 37-28, but couldn't topple Chelsea as the Maples lost 40-20 to the Bulldogs in the Division 2 district final.

Khristyan Young (138) went 2-0 with a major decision while Nehemiah Vasquez (150) recorded a pair of pins, John Breckel (190) got a pin and Diego Orozco (113) picked up a major decision.

Picking up wins for Tecumseh were Carson Fields (126) with a major decision, Cooper Barkway (165) with a pin, Landon Amaya (190) with a pin and Max Walker (106) with a pin.

Division 4 District at Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central

MONROE — Sand Creek got a bye to the district final where it fell to Division 4 No. 6 Manchester, 64-18.

Daniel Meckley (190), Reid Hulett (285) and Grady Thompson (138) all picked up pins for the Aggies.

Girls Basketball

Blissfield 65, Hudson 40

BLISSFIELD — The Royals remained unbeaten in the LCAA with the victory.

Avery Collins scored 18 points and Leigh Wyman added 10 for the Royals (12-2, 9-0 LCAA).

Britton Deerfield 31, Sand Creek 23

BRITTON — The Patriots won for the third time this season.

Lily Watson had another big game with 12 points while Alivia Salenbien scored nine for BD (3-14, 2-8 TCC).

Carley Allen (eight) and Tanana Emmendorfer (seven) combined for 15 points for the Aggies (1-13, 0-7).

Lenawee Christian 54, Erie Mason 27

ERIE — Hannah Baker had a big game with 22 points and nine rebounds for LCS.

Brielle Parker finished with 15 points for LCS (7-8, 6-3 TCC).

Whiteford 28, Morenci 25

OTTAWA LAKE — The Bobcats scored four points in the final 25 seconds to come back for the win.

Alyssa Gibbs led Morenci with 10 points. It was the first TCC loss for Morenci (12-3, 7-1 TCC).

Boys Basketball

Onsted 55, Ida 45

ONSTED — Ayden Davis had 19 points and 18 rebounds for the Wildcats.

Rylan Henagan finished with 12 points and JT Hill 10 for the Wildcats (13-4, 9-1 LCAA).

Madison 57, Hillsdale 54

HILLSDALE — Madison came from three points down in the fourth quarter to win.

Antonio Nieto led the Trojans (8-10, 5-6 LCAA) with 21 points.

Dundee 70, Clinton 43

CLINTON — The Vikings tuned-up for Saturday’s LCAA showdown against Onsted with the win.

Calen Keith finished with 15, Eli Turner 13 and Jalen Stelzer 10 for Clinton (7-10, 4-7 LCAA).

Hockey

Chelsea 3, Lenawee United 0

CHELSEA — The top two teams in the SEC White went head-to-head with the Bulldogs picking up the shutout.

Lenawee (14-8-1, 3-1 SEC White) had its chances, outshooting the Bulldogs 34-32, but Chelsea's goalie stood tall in net.

FRIDAY

Boys Basketball

Lenawee Christian 56, Summerfield 53

PETERSBURG — The Cougars came back from 12 points in the second half to win on the road and clinch the Tri-County Conference championship.

Jaxon Salenbien scored 24 points and Brandon Summer scored 11, including a key 3-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Daniel Scrupsky hit two 3-pointers for LCS, including the go-ahead bucket with 22 seconds left.  LCS is 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the TCC.

Adrian 65, Ypsilanti 48

YPSILANTI — Stevie Elam filled up the Maple stat sheet with 35 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and four steals as Adrian won on the road.

Sean Parker had 11 points and seven rebounds. Antonio Brown had 10 rebounds and Tristan Hayes dished out seven assists for the Maples (13-3, 4-2 SEC White).

Hudson 53, Blissfield 48

HUDSON — The Tigers halted a 13-game losing streak with the win on its Homecoming night.

Jackson Jones led Hudson with 22 points. Isaac St. John added 14 points and five rebounds and Qwaden Wallace had 13 points for the Tigers (2-15, 1-9 LCAA).

Blissfield (9-8, 6-5 LCAA) got 17 points from Gabe Schnoor.

Tecumseh 61, Pinckney 38

TECUMSEH — Ryan Barrie led Tecumseh with 21 points while Ryan Mossburg added 18 and Tyler Clement had 11.

Tecumseh is 14-3 and 4-2 in SEC White play.

Addison 55, Homer 52

ADDISON — Jaxen Sword scored 21 points and Gunner Demeuse had 20 as the Panthers won for the second time since the second week of the season.

Demeuse made six free throws down the stretch for Addison (4-13, 4-7 Cascades Conference).

Whiteford 64, Sand Creek 52

SAND CREEK — Rory Eack had a big game with 28 points and eight boards while Trevor Opel scored 14 points and Cole Scharer had 10.

The Aggies are 8-9 overall and 3-7 in the TCC.

Erie Mason 69, Morenci 19

ERIE — The Eagle defense clamped down on the Bulldogs.

Isaac Shoemaker led the Bulldogs (1-16, 0-10 TCC) with six points.

Girls Basketball

Clinton 48, Dundee 28

CLINTON — Zoey Sierer scored 26 points to lead Clinton to the victory on its home floor.

Kyleigh Ramos added eight points for 7-6 Clinton (4-5 LCAA).

Madison 47, Hillsdale 26

MADISON TWP. — The Trojans did it with defense again, holding Hillsdale to nine field goals.

The Parish sisters combined for 32 points with Nevaeh scoring 17 and Jaeda putting in 15 for Madison (13-3, 8-2 LCAA)

Tecumseh 74, Pinckney 23

TECUMSEH — Eight different Tecumseh (14-3, 6-0 SEC White) players scored at least two points and the team had 22 assists for the game.

Alli Zajac had 27 points. Makayla Schlort had 15 points and six assists while Ashlyn Moorhead added nine points and six assists and Addie Zajac had seven rebounds to go with her eight points.

Adrian 37, Ypsilanti 23

ADRIAN — The Maples snapped a two-game losing skid by picking up an SEC White win against the Grizzlies.

Adrian (7-7, 3-4 SEC White) got 13 points from Ciara Ernst and Ella Salenbien. Salenbien had a double-double with 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists to go with her 13 points.

Ida 55, Onsted 18

IDA — Ava Ruttkofsky was a bright spot for the Wildcats with five points and three steals.

Onsted is 7-9 and 3-6 in LCAA play.

Homer 56, Addison 50

ADDISON — Laci Patterson exploded for 20 points and Lexi Patterson scored 10 for the Panthers.

Addison is 4-14 and 3-9 Cascades Conference play.

SATURDAY

Wrestling

Division 2 District at Pinckney

PINCKNEY — Adrian and Tecumseh battled at the individual district meet at Pinckney where 10 locals advanced to the regional tournament.

Eight of those wrestlers were Maples, including champion Diego Orozco (113).

Division 2 District at Williamston

WILLIAMSTON — Blissfield, Clinton, Madison and Onsted were all on the mats at Williamston where 22 locals advanced to regionals.

Clinton had 10, including district champions Nate Arntz (106), Braylon Long (126), Connor Younts (132), Cliff Jones (150) and Bryce Randolph (175). Madison added seven with Logan Russell (285), Malaki Mosher (113), Lukas Leonard (138) and Jalonn Borders (157) all winning titles.

Blissfield had three advance while Onsted had two.

Division 4 at Dansville

DANSVILLE — At Dansville, 21 local wrestlers advanced to regionals from Addison, Hudson and Morenci.

Hudson had 13 qualifiers, including district champions Jaxton Kimling (106), Chase Clark (113), Nicholas Sorrow (120), Cole Marry (138), Coy Perry (144), Austin Marry (150), Jacob Pickford (157) and Logan Ryan (175).

Addison advanced six wrestlers while Morenci sent two.

Division 4 at Manchester

MANCHESTER — Sand Creek was in action at Manchester where the Aggies sent four.

Overall, 57 Lenawee County wrestlers advanced to regionals, including 18 champions.

Boys Basketball

Onsted 71, Dundee 47

ONSTED — A 25-0 run changed what was a tie game into a big Onsted lead as the Wildcats took over sole possession of the Lenawee County Athletic Association race.

Ayden Davis scored 27 points and became Onsted's all-time leading scorer. JT Hill had a big game in the boards and scored 16 points for 14-4 (10-1 LCAA) Onsted.

Lenawee Christian 70, Southfield Christian 56

ADRIAN — Division 4 No. 1 LCS got a non-conference win at home after getting off to a strong start offensively.

The Cougars (15-2) led 21-12 after the first and 41-23 at the half.

Jaxon Salenbien had 27 points while Daniel Scrupsky had 18 points on six 3-pointers.

Clinton 65, Stockbridge 62

STOCKBRIDGE — The Redwovles traveled for a makeup game with the Panthers from Jan. 30 where they came out with a tight win against a 13-5 Stockbridge team.

Clinton is now 8-10 on the season, but have won three of its last four games.

Hockey

Chelsea 2, Lenawee 1

CHELSEA — United fell for the second time in three days against SEC White rival Chelsea.

Lenawee (14-9-1, 3-2 SEC White) got a goal from Rhett Micallef (Onsted) off assists from Carson Ritz (Adrian) and Cameron Mahony (Madison) to make it a 1-1 game in the second period.

Chelsea scored the game-winner with 5:19 to go.

Girls Basketball

Stockbridge 67, Clinton 27

STOCKBRIDGE — It was a 3-point shooting contest in Stockbridge as Clinton fell in the non-league road game.

The two teams combined for 16 3-pointers with Stockbridge hitting 10 while the Redwolves (7-7) knocked down six. Zoey Sierer and Kaylie Livingston each had 11 points.

Toledo Christian 72, Lenawee Christian 15

ADRIAN — The Cougars were no match for a strong Toledo Christian team.

LCS fell to 7-9 on the season.
