Editor’s note: Jones High School senior quarterback Trever Jackson wrote the following first-person story to preview his college decision. The 6-foot-2½, 185-pound Jackson is ranked the No. 32 overall player in Florida, No. 15 quarterback in the nation and the No. 222 overall player in the nation on the 247Sports composite. He will announce his decision on Instagram at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Elite 11 finalist completed 96 of 162 passes for 1,559 yards and 16 touchdowns in 10 games at West Orange in 2022.

Every time I think about what the last few months have been like, I always say it’s been a crazy roller coaster, but it’s been a blessing. I really appreciate it. It’s been non-stop recruiting, I've visited several colleges and met some awesome coaching staff.

But I have my decision made up and I’m ready to announce it.

It’s going to be a stress relief. I’ll have my college chosen and ready for the December signing day. I plan to start class in January for the Spring semester. It will mean a lot for my family when I announce, too. First, it means that they don’t have to pay for college and I’ll be good for the next three to four years. More importantly, my ultimate goal is to retire them. That’s a big deal for me.

I made up my mind last week. The decision was really difficult, my final four all have head coaches who are the best in college football.  So, I had to sit down with my family to review my options. The decision was clear. I chose the program that best aligns with my goals both academically and athletically. This is the best path to develop me for my future.

State of Florida: Exclusive statewide high school football coverage

My four finalists are, in alphabetical order, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and UCLA.

Oklahoma

My former teammate, Jayden Gibson, is there now and he tells me great stuff about the program. Coach Venables talks to me a lot and I can feel his vibe. He talks about making sure that he has his players ready for life after football, owning a business and careers. Coach Lebby, I like his mindset and how he uses his quarterbacks. It fits me well.

Ole Miss

My brother committed to Lane when he was at FAU and he rememberd me from that. He has that great personality, and he has an explosive offense with a lot of big plays. Coach Weiss does a great job helping his quarterbacks understand the offense as a whole and teaching them different techniques they can use.

Texas A&M

Jimbo, when he was at FSU, I used to watch his games a lot because I was a big FSU fan. It was cool to talk to him and meeting him was a dream come true. Coach Petrino, I really like his offense and how he coached Lamar Jackson and led him to a Heisman. I feel like I can do the same thing with the offense he runs.

UCLA

I like the vibe from there. Sunshine and palm trees. Coach Kelly having that NFL mindset and that type of scheme is big. When I saw the facilities, it was pretty cool. It's somewhere I could be. I was a little surprised when they recruited me. It was right after Elite 11. My flight got cancelled, they called me and I took a visit and they offered a few hours after. They’ve been recruiting me every since.

I didn’t think my recruiting would get this big. I was really going to call it quits before the Elite 11, but my parents told me to wait it out and trust the process. The recruiting process has been long. It was at the point where a lot of quarterbacks were committing to schools who were recruiting me and the offers were falling off. I’m glad I didn't commit earlier.

You know what? It’s been a long process and I’m ready to announce it now.

For the next three to four years, I’m taking my talents to …

Nah, check back tomorrow.
