Jets GM Joe Douglas reacts to Bryce Huff's departure, talks possible Zach Wilson trade

Jets GM Joe Douglas spoke to reporters on Monday, discussing the loss of Bryce Huff in free agency, the future of the likely soon-to-be-traded Zach Wilson, and more.

On Bryce Huff

"It’s an unfortunate part of the business when you lose a player like Bryce," Douglas said. "But ultimately, you can’t keep everybody."

Huff signed a three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Eagles.

Before signing with Philadelphia, Huff was linked to the Giants, with SNY's Connor Hughes reporting that a return to the Jets wasn't "out of the question."

Huff played in just 42 percent of the Jets’ defensive snaps last season, as he was used solely in pass-rushing situations.

On Zach Wilson

There have been discussions with other teams about Wilson, but nothing is "close."

"I think the trick is doing everything that’s right for the player and both teams," Douglas said.

Late last month, the Jets gave Wilson permission to seek a trade. And they found Aaron Rodgers' backup shortly after free agency started, inking Tyrod Taylor.

Wilson was called into action last season following the season-ending Achilles injury to Rodgers, and -- while Wilson didn't perform particularly well over the course of the year -- he was also yanked back and forth from a starting role to the bench.

Toward the end of the season, Wilson was thrust back into the starting job following an injury to Tim Boyle, and wound up suffering a head injury during that week's game against the Miami Dolphins.

Even before things went awry late last season, the writing had been on the wall when it came to the expected end of Wilson's time in New York.

On Jadeveon Clowney

The Jets recently met with the free agent linebacker, with Douglas calling that meeting "outstanding."

However, Douglas had nothing new to report regarding a potential signing of Clowney.

Clowney had two forced fumbles and tied his career-high with 9.5 sacks last season in 17 games (15 starts) with the Baltimore Ravens.
