Injury update on Louisiana football quarterback Ben Wooldridge; what we know after UAB win

Quarterback Ben Wooldridge 10 runs the ball and scores as The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns take on Northwestern State Demons at Cajun Field in Lafayette, LA. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023.

Following Louisiana football's dominant 41-21 road win at UAB, head coach Michael Desormeaux said it's unclear what degree of injury starting quarterback Ben Wooldridge is dealing with.

Wooldridge exited the game on the offense's first series on a routine throw. After the play, the quarterback dropped to the turf at Protective Stadium and did not get back up without assistance from the team's trainers.

He threw one incomplete pass on the night and did not return to the game for the Ragin' Cajuns (2-1).

"It's not his knee, it's his foot. The X-rays were negative," Desormeaux said. "We're going to do MRIs and do every possible thing we can. But he couldn't put any pressure on it at all.

"We're not really sure what it is but we're praying for the best."

When Wooldridge initially went down, it was concerning as the senior is just nine and a half months removed from an ACL tear he sustained during a practice in late November last season.

He worked hard to get back quickly from the injury.
