Howie Schwab, of ESPN trivia show 'Stump the Schwab,' mourned by FAU sports community
Florida Atlantic lost one of its biggest fans Saturday in former ESPN producer Howie Schwab. He was 63.
Schwab was a longtime personality at ESPN made famous with the trivia show "Stump the Schwab," in which the researcher served as the final challenge for competitors. The show ran from 2004 to 2006. He was let go from ESPN in 2013 and joined Fox Sports, becoming a writer for "Sports Jeopardy!"
Schwab graduated from St. John's but became a fan of FAU sports. He spoke at events held by the campus and was routinely seen at games. His Twitter page is full of commentary about FAU basketball games as the Owls played in March Madness.
One of the first to mourn Schwab on social media was his former ESPN colleague Dick Vitale, who posted a photo from a recent visit Schwab took to Vitale's home near Sarasota. Dickie V said Schwab was battling "various health issues."

The FAU community shared its condolences, as well. Here's a look at some posts from some folks with FAU ties remembering Schwab:

The smartest, sharpest & one of the most welcoming humans. An "American sports legend" an appropriate moniker for him. A cultural sensation. Having Howie Schwab 1) be a MASSIVE FAU fan, and 2) as an acquiantance, will always be wildly cool. He, and his presence, will be missed.

Aw man RIP Howie— was a big supporter of FAU recently and was fun to interact with on the TL. Especially since having watched him on Tv as a kid. https://t.co/RPc9RHlQMz
