Stellar pitching effort helps Hooks take win over Missions on Sunday

Highlights: Drew Gilbert's first inning RBI single that scored Daniel Johnson proved to be the winning run in a day for pitchers at Nelson Wolff Stadium. Hooks starter Spencer Arrighetti and Missions hurler Jackson Wolf combined for 17 strikeouts on the day as baserunners and hits were hard to come by. Hooks reliever Cole McDonald earned his second save of the season, throwing two scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Missions: Pedro Castellanos 2-3, 2B; Michael De La Cruz 1-3.

Highlights: The Missions clinched their series against the Hooks by picking up two wins during Saturday's doubleheader at San Antonio's Nelson Wolff Stadium. Corpus Christi climbed within one in Game 1 but couldn't push across any runs in the final three innings as San Antonio held on for the victory. In the nightcap, two runs were enough for the Missions to hold on for a one-run win in seven innings. The Hooks' only run came in the seventh on an RBI single by Drew Gilbert.

Highlights: The Hooks took an early 2-0 lead, but the Missions scored three runs in the bottom half of the second and never looked back for their third win of the series at San Antonio's Nelson Wolff Stadium. Shay Whitcomb and Chad Stevens drove in both of Corpus Christi's runs and combined for three of the team's seven hits. Pedro Castellanos homered and Tirso Ornelas finished with two hits to lead San Antonio.

THURSDAY, MAY 11

Missions: Ripken Reyes 2-4, 3B, 2B, 2 R: Juan Fernandez 1-4, RBI; Pedro Castellanos 1-4, 2B, R; Tirso Ornelas 1-3, 2B.

Highlights: Drew Gilbert recorded two extra-base hits and drove in the Hooks' only run in Thursday's loss to the Missions. J.C. Correa also finished with two hits and Julio Robaina pitched five quality innings with two strikeouts for Corpus Christi.

Highlights: The Hooks settled for a split during Wednesday's double-header at San Antonio's Nelson Wolff Stadium. Corpus Christi won the first game behind a three-hit performance from Colin Barber, who went 3 for 3 with a home run. Astros No. 1 prospect Drew Gilbert recorded his first Double-A hit and drove in a run in the victory. In the nightcap, the Hooks only managed one run against Missions starter Jose Espada on an RBI double by Shay Whitcomb.

The Hooks' series opener against Missions was postponed because of inclement weather at Nelson Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.

The game will be made up as a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 5:35 p.m.
