Hillsdale track athletes post personal best results in home meet against Dundee, Onsted

HILLSDALE — While Hillsdale track and field wasn't able to get the sweep at home against LCAA rivals Onsted and Dundee in team scoring, many Hornet athletes were able to beat their personal best results. The home meet signals a potentially impressive month of track ahead for coach Clay Schiman and his two track teams.

The Hillsdale boys team was able to beat Dundee in a final team score total of 79-58; they lost to Onsted 88-48. The girls team beat Onsted 65-60 but lost to Dundee 76-60.

Boys Results

Looking at the top results for Hillsdale's boys track team, senior Stephen Petersen took third in the 100-meter dash with a 11.86 time. Freshman Cam Arnold took fourth with a PR time of 11.90. In the 200, junior Dominick Coke took second with a PR time of 23.64. Miles Brown took third with a PR time of 23.74. Cam Arnold took fourth with a PR time of 24.01 seconds.

In the 400, freshman Carsen Payne set a new PR time of 59.05 to take seventh. Trine Commit Nolan Grant took second in the 1600, setting an impressive new PR time of 4:38.16. Teammate and freshman Logan Youngman took fourth with a PR time of 4:46.92.

Over in the 300 hurdles, senior Brice Van Zant took second with a new season best time of 43.70. Teammate Evan Towne took third with a new PR time of 44.21. Kaden Sorrell took fourth with a time of 45.11.

The 4x100 team of Stephen Petersen, Hunter Wilson, Jace Lennox and Dawson Adams took first with a time of 44.04. That team ranks No. 5 in current recorded Division 3 4x100 results.

The 4x200 team of Dawson Adams, Miles Brown, Dominick Coke and Hunter Wilson took first with a time of 1:31.24. That team currently ranks at No. 2 in recent recorded Division 3 results.

The 4x400 relay team took third with a time of 4:02.74.

In shot put, John Petersen took second with a throw distance of 39-feet, 7 1/2 inches. Senior Ethan Amburgey had a throw of 37-11 1/2 to take third. Right behind him in fourth was junior Wyatt Wahtola with a new PR distance of 37-10 1/2. Teammate Joshua Herring was just behind with a throw of 35-7 1/2.

Over in discus, Amburgey took second with a throw of 111-feet, 9 inches. John Petersen took third with a 111-00. Over in high jump, Ashton Thornsbury took second with a height of 6-feet. Robert Garcia took third with a height of 5-08. Brookes Beckman took fifth with a 5-06.

Over in pole vault, senior Declan Flannery set a new PR with a height of 11-feet, 6 inches. Flannery took second overall. Teammate Carter Myers had a PR of 10-06. Joshua Herring took fifth with a season best 10-00.

In long jump, junior Hayden Handy set a new PR distance of 21-feet, 3 3/4 inches to take first. Handy ranks ninth overall in recent Division 3 results. Teammates Robert Garcia and Jonathan Tomasello tied for fourth with a new PR distance of 18-02 1/2.

Girls Results

Trine Commit and senior Annemarie Moore was one of the top runners for the girls track team in this home meet. The senior set a season-best time of 13.38 seconds to take first in the 100-meter dash. Teammates Megan Kast and Jayce Graham each set a new PR time of 13.40 to tie for second. Teammate Charis Winn took fifth with a new PR time of 14.09.

Moore took first in the 200 with a time of 27.67. Kast took second with a 29.30. Kiely Kroa set a new PR time of 26.69 to take fifth.

Over in the 800-meter run, distance runner Chloe Stalhood took second with a season-best time of 2:39.98. Teammate Cailey VanZant took fourth with a PR time of 2:43.99. Taking fifth was Ava Evans with a new PR time of 2:49.91.

In the 100 hurdles, junior Meredith Bowles set a new PR time of 18.72 to take second. Bowles would take fourth in the 300 hurdles with a new PR time of 53.69. Teammate Natalia Galindo Gabande took first in the 300 with a new PR time of 51.05. Kelah Hodge took second with a time of 52.46, a season-best time. Freshman Susan Petersen took fifth with a PR time of 56.77.

The 4x100 relay team of Jayce Graham, Annemarie Moore, Amelia Dietz and Megan Kast took first with a time of 51.55. That number places Hillsdale fourth in recent Division 3 recorded times for that event.

Over in shot put, Olivia Broesamle and Meghan Mekelburg tied for seventh with a throw of 23-feet, 9 1/2 inches, new PR throws for both athletes. In discus, senior Emma Collison took first with a throw distance of 81-feet, 3 inches. Broesamle took fifth with a new PR throw of 68-11. Teammate Alyssa Reiniche was just right behind with a sixth-place finish and a throw of 67-8.

In high-jump, Kiely Kroa took first with a jump height of 4-feet, 10 inches. Teammate Susan Petersen took fourth with a height of 4-4.

In pole vault, Kelah Hodge had a season-best clearance height of 9-feet to take first. Over in long jump, Natalia Galindo Gabande took first with a new PR distance of 15-feet, 3 1/2 inches. Amelia Dietz took third with a season-best distance of 14-5. Meredith Bowles set a new PR distance of 13-6 1/4 to take fourth.
