HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Nauset swim team wins Cape and Islands Relay Carnival

The 2023 Cape and Islands annual Relay Carnival took place on Saturday, with the Nauset Warriors recording 121 points as a team across the day's swimming events to finish atop the standings.

Sandwich narrowly came in second place, finishing with 117 points, while Nantucket completed the top three with 84 points. Martha's Vineyard (66 points), Barnstable (50 points) and St. John Paul II (38 Points) rounded out the competition.

The Warriors won the girls 200-yard medley relay, mixed 200-yard butterfly, mixed 200-yard breaststroke, mixed 200-yard backstroke, mixed 500-yard freestyle and mixed 400-yard freestyle events. Sandwich took first place in the boys 200-yard medley relay, boys 200-yard freestyle, mixed 400-yard Individual medley, 1-meter diving and mixed 400-yard medley relay.

Girls Hockey

Sandwich 3, Plymouth North/South 0: The Blue Knights opened their season with a shutout victory. Brooklyn Benting, Khloe Schultz and Marley Dwyer all found the back of the net for the Blue Knights in the win.

Pope Francis 5, Barnstable 3: Ally McEneaney scored twice, and Claire Hazard had the third, as the Red Hawks (0-1) dropped their season opener. Ryley King had a pair of assists, and Grace Holden had an assist as well.

Boys Hockey

Nauset 7, Sandwich 3: The Warriors (1-0) scored five unanswered goals to win their first game of the season over the Blue Knights (1-1). Logan Poulin had five points (three goals/two assists) to lead the way for Nauset, while Joseph McManus also had a big night with two goals and an assist. Julian Krivos and Jake Eldredge added the other two goals for the Warriors. Chris Cardillo opened the scoring for the Blue Knights, Reece McKinnon added the second goal and Avery Richardson rounded out the scoring for Sandwich.

Martha's Vineyard 2, St. John Paul II 1: The Vineyarders (1-0) open their season with a victory over the Lions (0-1). Joe Medeiros and Nate Averill both found the back of the net for the Vineyarders. Liam Monaghan scored the Lions only goal.

Dover-Sherborn/Weston 2, D-Y/CCA/CCT 0: The Dolphins begin their season 0-2.

Bourne 5, Monomoy Mashpee 1: A hat trick from Ty Kelley, and goals from Dom Bonito and Joziah DeSouza, were enough to lead the Canalmen (1-0) to the season-opening win. Gavin O'Leary scored the lone goal for the Sharks (0-1).

Girls Basketball

Martha's Vineyard 49, Nantucket 27: The Vineyarders start the season 1-0 after beating the Whalers (0-1). Delilah Oliver led the way for the Vineyarders in the win with a team-high 14 points, to go along with nine rebounds, while Ava Townes added ten points.

Boys Basketball

Barnstable 68, Quincy 64: The Red Hawks (1-0) were down entering the fourth quarter, but hit a buzzer-beater as time expired to send the game to overtime, and then won the overtime period 9-5 to claim the win.

Friday, Dec. 8th

Girls Basketball

St. John Paul II 52, Bishop Stang 17: The Lions (1-0) got the win over Bishop Stang, led by three double-digit scorers. Devin Crofford had a game-high 17 points, Marlo Jumper had 14, including nine in a red-hot first quarter, and Raegan Dillon added 10 points.

Plymouth North 59, Nauset 40: The Warriors began the season 0-1.

Boys Basketball:

Falmouth Academy 64, Norfolk Aggie 38: The Mariners (1-0) opened the season with a win.
