Abilene, Big Country top high school basketball performances for Dec. 18-24

Boys Basketball

Jordan Willis, Abilene Cooper

Willis scored a team-high 17 points, including seven in overtime, as the Cougars beat Abilene Wylie 56-52 in the District 4-5A opener Tuesday at Cougar Gym.

Kam Gray, Abilene Cooper

Gray added 15 points in the Coogs’ win over Abilene Wylie.

Zay Alexander, Abilene Cooper

Alexander chipped in 12 points in the Coogs’ win.

Derrick Evans, Abilene Wylie

Evans scored a game-high 18 points, including eight in overtime, in the Bulldogs’ loss to Cooper.

Kamden Wright, Abilene Wylie

Wright scored 14 points in the Bulldogs’ loss to Cooper.

Jatryan Smith, Abilene High

Smith scored a team-high 14 points, all in the first half, as the Eagles beat Lubbock Monterey 54-51 in the District 4-5A opener Tuesday at Eagle Gym. Eric Salazar and Brooks Reese added nine each. Salazar scored five of AHS’ 11 points in the final quarter.

Aiden Jackson, Merkel

Jackson scored a game-high 27 points as the Badgers beat Clyde 68-65 in a District 6-3A game Tuesday at Merkel.

Kooper Darby, Merkel

Darby matched Jackson’s 27 points in the Badgers win over Clyde. Bryant Jones also had 12.

Daijon Booker, Clyde

Booker scored a team-high 23 points in the Bulldogs’ loss to Merkel. Jerrett Jeffers added 14, and Austin Berry had 11.

Ryan Shifflett, Coahoma

Shifflett scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Bulldogs past Ballinger 70-38 in a District 6-3A game Tuesday at Ballinger. Landon Wells added 14 points, and Boyd Cox had 11.

Bryson Callaway, Knox City

Callaway poured in a game-high 22 points to spark the No. 16 Greyhounds past Spur 71-40 in a non-district game Tuesday at Spur. Devin Guillory and Nicholas Trevino chipped in 12 points apiece.

Girls Basketball

Taryn Moore, Abilene High

Moore led the Lady Eagles with 19 points in a 98-57 loss to Lubbock Monterey in a District 4-5A game Tuesday at Eagle Gym.

Samia Cooper, Abilene High

Cooper added 17 points in the Lady Eagles’ loss to Monterey.

Baylor Wright, Coahoma

Wright poured in a game-high 27 points to spark the Bulldogettes past Ballinger 65-30 in a District 6-3A game Tuesday at Ballinger. Bree Lewis added 13 points in the win.
