Hendersonville girls tennis downs Salisbury, advances to 2-A state championship
SALISBURY — Hendersonville High's girls tennis team's quest for a third straight team state title continued Wednesday with another dominating performance, and now the girls are just one win away from a threepeat.
The Bearcats didn't need doubles once again as they eliminated Salisbury by a final of 5-1. Salisbury (19-1), the top seed in the West, lost its first match of the season.
Hendersonville, the No. 2 seed in the West, improves to 17-0 and will face the East No. 13 seed Research Triangle (14-4) in the 2-A finals. The match will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Burlington Tennis Center.
The Bearcats have yet to play doubles in the dual-team playoffs. They haven't lost a dual-team match since Oct. 29, 2018, when they lost in the third round of the playoffs to Maiden.
At No. 1 singles Wednesday, Olivia Pursley defeated Millie Wymbs 6-1, 6-3; at No. 2, Eliza Perry defeated Abby Champion 6-3, 6-1; at No. 3, Lindsay Bull defeated Abbey Lawson 6-0, 6-1; at No. 4, Ramsey Ross defeated Kate Burton 6-1, 6-0, and at No. 5, Ava Heffner defeated Ellison Frick 6-2, 6-1. At No. 6, Reece Redden lost to Emily Frick 6-1, 6-0.
