Helping hands: Tuesday's MetroWest and Milford area Fantastic Five high school athletes
Now they can get in a groove. Spring appears to finally, fully be here. These Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford area athletes have certainly taken advantage of it.
They've led their teams to big-time wins and posted record-breaking performances.
Without further ado, Tuesday, April 9th's MetroWest and Milford-area Fantastic Five high school athletes:
MICHAEL ATWATER, Hudson baseball
He allowed just two hits and threw a complete game to beat Lincoln-Sudbury 3-1 on Tuesday. Atwater struck out five and had two hits for the Hawks (2-0). Hudson's Anthony Mora added two hits, stole a base and scored a run. Riley O'Sullivan and Caelen O'Brien each scored a run and had a hit, while Joey Farrell drove in a run. L-S starter Peter Abair struck out six and allowed just one earned run in six innings. Matthew Stagno drove in a run, while Garrett Mahoney tripled and scored a run. Mason Tarantino added a hit for the Warriors.

JOEY BURKE, Wayland boys volleyball
He controlled the offense with 37 assists in a 3-0 win over Westford Academy on Tuesday and fired five aces. Liam Franzel put down nine kills, while Cooper Szeremeta and Dylan Engelhardt (three aces) each had eight kills for the Warriors (3-1), who won 25-23, 25-14, 25-17.
GRACE CHIOTA, Algonquin girls lacrosse
She fired in six goals, as the Titans took down Shrewsbury 12-9 on Tuesday. Bella Roman contributed a hat trick, and Ella Nofsinger contributed two goals for Algonquin (1-1, 1-1 Mid-Wach A).
LILY DeFORGE & LIZ HOPKINS, Franklin girls track & field
They each set a school record Tuesday, as the Panthers prevailed 112-24 over Taunton. DeForge won the discus with a toss of 119 feet, six inches to put her name in the record books. Hopkins set the javelin record at 132-9. Sarah Dumas was first in the 400-meter hurdles, the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump and third in the javelin. Ella Chandaria sprinted to victory in the 100 and 200.

JOHN KUHN, Hudson boys track and field
He captured four event titles Tuesday, as the Hawks defeated AMSA 10-7-29. Kuhn was first in the high jump at 6 feet, 4 inches and the triple jump at 40-2. He also sprinted to gold in the 100-meter dash (11.6 seconds) and 200 (24.3).

OLD COLONY 8, Tri-County 3: Zach Lawrence (run) and Owen Maw each had two hits for the Cougars (0-1) in their opener Tuesday.
AMSA 16, West Boylston 0 (5): Joe Veracka tripled among his two hits and drove in two runs for the Eagles. He also pitched four no-hit innings. Anthony Skillings tripled and had a triple for AMSA (1-1).

ALGONQUIN 9, Shrewsbury 6: Nicholas Klein was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Titans (1-1, 1-0 Mid-Wach A) on Tuesday. Algonquin's Zachary Meehl singled and doubled.
MARLBOROUGH 10, Lunenburg 0: Ryan Dillon was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for the Panthers (2-2) on Tuesday. Dylan Romano scored two runs, tripled and had an RBI, and Michael Benway scored two runs after collecting twohits.
Softball
TRI-COUNTY 22, Old Colony 2 (5): Nicole Marshall doubled and tripled on her 3-for-3 day Tuesday, driving in four runs for the Cougars (2-0). Tri-County's Alexi Rego had two hits. Ele Marshall threw three innings to earn the win and combined with Neila Schweitzer to not allow a hit.
NIPMUC 13, Blackstone-Millville 1 (5): Kira DeBaggis and Bridget Klupa each doubled for the Warriors (3-0, 2-0 Dual Valley) on Tuesday.

HOPEDALE 14, Sutton 3 (5): Lizzie Brytowski struck out 13 and allowed just one earned run in the circle for the Blue Raiders (2-0, 2-0 Dual Valley). She also tripled twice with a single and drove in a run. Hopedale's Kelsey events was 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Pheobe Carrol homered among her two hits and added four RBIs.

SHREWSBURY 6, Algonquin 5: Declan Mulkerin put away two goals for the Titans (2-1, 2-1 Mid-Wach A) on Tuesday.
FRAMINGHAM 8, Newton North 3: Alex Trierweiler contributed a hat trick for the Flyers (2-0) on Tuesday. Framingham's Henry Goldberg (assist) and Connor Claflin put away two goals each.
Girls lacrosse
NOTRE DAME (WORCESTER) 15, Hopedale 4: Emma Gosselin scored to goals with an assist for the Blue Raiders on Tuesday.
MARLBOROUGH 16, Fitchburg 1: Ella Hobin and Elizabeth Johnson scored four goals each fort the Panthers (1-1), who won their first game of the season Tuesday. Marlborough's Maggie and Kacie Horn each put away two gaols.

NIPMUC 18, Auburn 6: Jordan Lilburn put away five goals in an 18-6 win over Auburn on Tuesday. Liz Lange and Fallon Lozan each scored four times for the Warriors (1-1, 1-0 Mid-Mass), and Maddie Ferrandes found the net twice.
LITTLETON 23, Hudson 14: Katie Preusse found the net nine times, but it wasn't enough for the Hawks on Tuesday.
Boys tennis
WESTBOROUGH 5, Nashoba 0: The Rangers only lost two games as a team in the victory. Srinjoy Ghosh (No. 2 singles), Jordan Hlawek (No. 3 singles), Michael Ku and Brendan Estaphan (No. 1 doubles) and Eehab Khan and Jorge Garcia Gonzelz (No. 2 doubles) all prevailed 6-0. Keden Chen won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singes for Westborough (2-0, 2-0 Mid-Wach A).
Girls tennis
MILLIS 5, Norton 0: First doubles pair Addy Loer and Izzy Doherty gutted out a 6-4, 7-5 win to help Millis (3-0, 2-0 TVL) secure the sweep. Amelia Staples (second singles) and Adriana Villacis (third singles) prevailed 6-1, 6-0, while Millis' No. 2 doubles team Macy Schneiderat and Tessa Molinari won 6-0, 6-1. Olivia Fong won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
AMSA 5, West Boylston 0: Eagles No. 2 singles player Rachel Chennakara fought off Hannah Andrachick 6-3, 7-5. Saisha Kolluri took down Helida Corra 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for AMSA (1-2), while Sameera Patnala bested Hailey Gichuhl 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3. AMSA's No. 2 doubles team of Riley Whittier and Stella Damoulakis swept Darlene Mintah and Evelyn Mansfield 6-0, 6-0, and the No. 1 pair of Katina Gakis and Sahasra Jangareddi won 6-0, 6-2 over Salem Golen and Lily Kilcoyne.
Girls track & field
HOPKINTON 95, Westwood 41: Hopkinton's Alice Brambati took first in the 100 hurdles and triple jump, and she ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay with Savannah Rivera, Josie Hopkins and Kaelyn Geremia. Loryn Canthy captured the 100 and the shot put for the Hillers.
Girls golf
WESTBOROUGH 41.5, Hopkinton 12.5: Rangers senior Abby Mahr captured the medalist honors at Westborough Country Club with a 45, as the Rangers improved to 2-0.
