'Hats off!':Bayern say thank you for an 'incredible atmosphere'

Even the day after looks the same on the streets of Munich – Bayern fans, with their scarves, flags and shirts, on their way to work or school. “We’re still showing our colours after a match like that,” tweeted a fan full of pride for a team that gave their all in a deserved, yet ultimately insufficient, 2-1 win against Atlético Madrid.

“You can’t have a go at the team. The fans take the same view,” said Philipp Lahm after the match, praising the FC Bayern crowd who once again demonstrated their appreciation of a situation with their powerful support for the players at the end of the game. “There was an incredible atmosphere at the stadium. You could see the team gave one hundred percent all the way.”

“We did a lot right and a few things less so. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, although our fans were behind us for the full 90 minutes,” declared Thomas Müller after missing out on the final. He too went on to praise the fans for their support at the Allianz Arena. “I’ve hardly ever experienced a night like that. Hats off!” And Xabi Alonso added: “The fans were incredible.”

“Our fans are a bit sad as we are too,” admitted Pep Guardiola, “but I think we can be satisfied with our performance.” The Bayern coach was singing from the same hymn sheet as the approval of the fans showed – including on social networks. “A big thank you to FC Bayern!” was just one of the thousands of positive comments echoing the fans’ support for FC Bayern, “it was a great display yesterday - but with an unhappy ending. However: #WeiterImmerWeiter (#onandon)!” Starting in Ingolstadt.
