Greater Lansing high school basketball: See the boys and girls power rankings

Here is a look at the high school boys and girls basketball power rankings in Greater Lansing following the opening month of play.

BOYS

BIG SCHOOL

(Divisions 1-2)

1. East Lansing

Michigan Power Rating (MPR): .704

The Trojans had a dominant early portion of the season with six of their seven wins coming by at least 16 points. East Lansing knocked off River Rouge last week.

2. Okemos

Record: 8-1

MPR: .669

The Wolves lost several talented players in the offseason but have been among the area’s best so far. The lone loss is to Detroit Catholic Central for Okemos, which knocked off Dexter last week at Little Caesars Arena

3. Waverly

Record: 6-2

MPR: .624

Warriors have won three of four since an 85-49 loss to Detroit Catholic Central, which included a 10-point win over River Rouge last week.

4. DeWitt

Record: 8-1

MPR: .691

The Panthers have three wins by three points or less during a strong start in which their lone loss came in CAAC Blue play to Okemos. That included a 50-48 road win over Sparta last week.

5. Mason

Record: 6-2

MPR: .529

CAAC Red-leading Bulldogs had four-game winning streak halted with loss to Howell in the title game at their holiday tournament last week.

1. Laingsburg

MPR: .658

Reigning CMAC champion Wolfpack are off to another strong start that includes an overtime win over P-W.

2. Pewamo-Westphalia

Record: 7-1

MPR: .634

Pirates are on a six-game winning streak since OT setback to Laingsburg, which included a victory over Williamston last week.

3. Stockbridge

Record: 6-3

MPR: .578

The Panthers’ start to the season has included wins over above .500 teams Dansville, Olivet and Onsted.

4. Fowler

Record: 4-5

MPR: .527

The Eagles have played a tough early schedule with the losses including setbacks to P-W and Laingsburg and the others to Division 1 and 2 schools like Sparta, Muskegon Mona Shores and Marshall.

5. Perry

Record: 5-2

MPR: .478

The Ramblers are already halfway to matching their win total from last season with their start to the season.

BIG SCHOOL

Raiders have recorded four wins over teams who currently are above .500, which includes knocking off CAAC Blue members East Lansing and Holt in their last two games.

2. Lansing Catholic

Record: 2-3

MPR: .553

The reigning Division 2 state champion Cougars have played a challenging early schedule with two of their three losses coming at showcases to unbeatens Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard and Detroit Renaissance. They have blown out CAAC Red leader Williamston and Charlotte for their two wins.

3. DeWitt

Record: 6-1

MPR: .632

The Panthers opened with six straight wins before suffering a road setback to Byron Center on Saturday.

4. East Lansing

Record: 4-2

MPR: .582

The Trojans have already matched their win total from last season under the direction of new coach Tori Brooks.

5. Williamston

Record: 4-3

MPR: .509

A narrow win over Haslett has the Hornets atop the CAAC Red. Two of the three losses for Williamston have come to Lansing Catholic and DeWitt.

SMALL SCHOOL

1. Ovid-Elsie

Record: 6-0

MPR: .682

The Marauders have followed last year’s run to the Division 3 quarterfinals by getting off to a perfect start that has included five wins by at least 20 points.

2. Dansville

Record: 4-0

MPR: .591

The reigning CMAC champion Aggies have recorded three of their four wins by at least 20 points.

3. Bath

Record: 5-0

MPR: .608

The Bees are in midst of a dominant start with each of their wins coming by at least 18 points. A key test awaits on Jan. 11 with a home date against Dansville.

4. Fowler

Record: 4-1

MPR: .621

The Riley sisters are no longer impacting things on the court, but the Eagles are still finding success. Fowler has won four straight since a season-opening loss to Midland Dow, with six-point wins over both Portland St. Patrick and Pewamo-Westphalia.

5. Portland St. Patrick

Record: 3-2

MPR: .516

Shamrocks have been tested in the early stages and the losses have come to Fowler and Grand Rapids West Catholic.
