Girls basketball roundup: Trinity Miller leads Pontiac to victory in regular season finale

STREATOR — Trinity Miller was the top gun for Pontiac in its 40-34 nonconference girls' basketball win over host Streator Thursday.

Miller hit for a game-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for PTHS.

After leading the entire game, Pontiac was able to make enough free throws down the stretch to secure the win. The Amerinds were up 11-5 after the first quarter and outscored the Bulldogs 7-0 in the second for an 18-5 halftime lead. Each side tallied 12 points in the third.

Streator rallied in the last stanza with 17 points, but PTHS made six charity tosses in the fourth period to help secure the win.

Makyah Hartfield had eight points and Brianna Hilleary added six.

Pontiac 54, St. Thomas More 32 — At Pontiac, a fast start for Pontiac pushed the home team to an Illini Prairie Conference victory over St. Thomas More Monday. Bailey Masching continued her hot shooting by pouring in 25 points.

PTHS led 16-5 after one period and 25-14 at the break. The Amerinds scored 29 points in the second half. Trinity Miller added nine points and Morgan Dewald tallied six.

LaSalle-Peru 36, Prairie Central 26 — At Fairbury, Prairie Central held LaSalle-Peru to just four points in the fourth quarter, but the Hawks could only score two in dropping a nonconference girls' basketball contest Monday. PC led 10-3 after one period but was outscored in each of the final three quarters.

Abi Nimbler had 10 points for Prairie Central. Jayla Hammond added five points and Lucy Whitfill grabbed eight rebounds.

Monticello 40, Prairie Central 30 — At Monticello, Prairie Central fell in a deep hole early and could not get out as host Monticello took their Illini Prairie Conference matchup Thursday. The Hawks trailed 26-15 at the half and was able to knock off just one point in the second half.

Jaya Hammond had 12 points for Prairie Central. Ali Nimbler added eight points.

Dee-Mack 60, EPG 41 — At Gridley, Dee-Mack completed its perfect run through the Heart of Illinois Conference with a win over host El Paso-Gridley at EPG Junior High Thursday. The Chiefs got on top early and topped the Titans in each of the first three periods to lead 48-26 heading into the final frame.

Myli Ehrhardt tallied 18 points to pace the Titans (14-12, 6-6). Abriel Smith checked in with eight points and five rebounds. Mackenzie Knowles scored 16 for Dee-Mack (29-2, 12-0).

EPG 51, Lexington 40 — At El Paso, El Paso-Gridley was able to fend off a second-half rally in posting a Heart of Illinois girls' basketball win over Lexington on Monday. The Titans led 28-14 at the half but the Minutemen closed the gap to 35-30 at one point in the third frame.

Myli Ehrhardt collected 22 points and eight rebounds in pacing EPG (14-11, 6-5). Mindy Steiner contributed 10 points and 8 boards and Kaylea Randall checked in with eight points and 13 boards.

Claire Peacock led Lexington (13-16, 2-9) with 16 points and seven rebounds.
