Garrett obliterates Westmoreland, Potomac State falls

Feb. 1—McHENRY — Garrett College was nothing short of dominant on Wednesday, defeating Westmoreland County 136-58.

The 78-point margin is the biggest of the season for any of the three area junior colleges including Allegany and WVU Potomac State.

It's the biggest point margin for Garrett since Jan. 7, 2020, also against Westmoreland at 67 points in a 127-60 Lakers win.

It's the third time the Lakers (12-8) have won a game by more than 50 points this season.

All eight Garrett players scored and seven finished in double figures.

Gavin Jackson scored a game-high 31 points and hit seven 3-pointers. He also had seven assists and a steal.

Alex Vargo scored 23 points with four assists and three steals and K'Shawn Scott added 20 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a block.

Kydale Staten finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Mountain Ridge graduate Nate Washington recorded 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.

Stephen Robinson and Rob Smith each scored 11 points. Robinson added 20 rebounds and three blocks while Smith had seven assists and six rebounds.

Carson Harris was the only Laker to not hit double figures, finishing one point shy.

Brandon Fetter led the Wolfpack with 21 points, hitting seven 3-pointers.

Tyler Travillion added 14 points and four rebounds while Jordan Askew recorded 13 points and five rebounds.

Garrett hit 17 3-pointers led by Jackson's seven, Staten's five and Vargo's four.

The Lakers led 74-17 at halftime and outscored the Wolfpack 62-41 in the second half.

Garrett only committed eight turnovers while forcing 30.

The Lakers have won four in a row and will try to make it five at WVU Potomac State College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Harford 94 WVU Potomac State 79KEYSER, W.Va. — Chandler Johnson hit seven 3-pointers, finishing with 32 points in Harford's win over WVU Potomac State College on Wednesday.

Johnson hit all seven long balls in the second half for the Owls (12-10, 4-4 NJCAA Region 20). It was part of a 25-point second half performance.

Johnson also recorded six rebounds, five assists and a steal.

Ty Williams scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half.

Nate Lacey and Jordan Butler each scored 12 points. Butler also had seven rebounds and three blocks and Lacey added six rebounds and three blocks.

Daniel Charlot led the Catamounts (7-11, 1-10 Region 20) with 19 points, scoring 13 in the second half. He had a double-double with 14 rebounds, a steal and a block.

Rodney Vilsaint added 18 points with two rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Damian Thompson scored 11 points with five rebounds and a steal.

Potomac State hosts area rival Garrett College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
