The Reds lacked intent with possession for most of the first half but took the lead through a moment of quality from Alexander-Arnold, who whipped his free-kick from the edge of the box into the top-left corner. However, the Cottagers levelled the score just before the break, with Castagne netting a cool finish from close range into the bottom-left corner. Silva would have expected his team to continue their momentum into the second half, but couldn't find a way past Liverpool's defence and had to wait until the 83rd minute for their next shot. The visitors gained control, with Gravenberch scoring his first Premier League goal with a curling finish into the right corner before Jota doubled the lead with a low strike.
