Xavier 35, Fox Valley Lutheran 14

APPLETON - The Hawks won back the Apple Bowl trophy with the victory on Rocky Bleier Field at Xavier.

Isaiah Des Jardins scored on touchdown runs of 7 and 38 yards for the Hawks, while Matthew Potter scored on runs of 17 and 4 yards.

The Foxes and Hawks were meeting for the 53rd time overall and the 37th time for the Apple Bowl. The Foxes won 24-15 last year and had won five of the last seven meetings. FVL now leads the series 27-26.

The game was delayed due to lightning with 1:17 remaining in the first half with Xavier leading 20-7. After a delay of 42 minutes, the Hawks ran out the clock to end the first half and then the second half started immediately.

FVL took a 7-0 lead on a 64-yard pass from Liam Heiges to Trenton Heyn on the first series of the game.

Des Jardins and Potter each scored in the first quarter to give the Hawks a 13-7 lead after one quarter.

FVL pulled within 20-14 in the third quarter on a 7-yard touchdown run by Jack Egan, but Xavier responded after a long kickoff return by Potter set up a 1-yard run by Carter McGlone and a two-point conversion to go ahead 28-14 with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.

APPLETON - The Patriots outgained the Terrors 249-3 over the first two quarters and never looked back in a dominating performance in nonconference action at the West High School Field.

It was the most lopsided score in the 56-year history of the rivalry, which West still leads 28-26-2.

The game was delayed for about 45 minutes due to lightning.

East took the opening kick and drove 80 yards in five plays, capped off by Jacob Weisbach’s 1-yard run. After a botched snap on the extra-point attempt, Weisbach picked the ball up and ran it in for the conversion and an 8-0 lead.

Five Patriots players scored touchdowns on the night.

MENASHA – Grant Dean had another spectacular night and the Rockets defense shut down the Bluejays in the win at Calder Stadium.

The game was called with just over 10 minutes remaining due to lightning.

Dean, a junior, finished with three touchdown runs (50, 43 and 30 yards) and totaled 188 yards on 15 carries. He scored six touchdowns last week in Neenah’s win over De Pere.

Neenah freshman quarterback Ashton Van Beek also had a solid night, finishing with four rushes for 101 yards, including a 16-yard touchdown scamper in the second quarter. He also passed for 85 yards on 4-of-4 attempts and a touchdown.

Menasha did move the ball on Neenah and had two drives finish inside the 20 but came away with no points in the first half.

Kaukauna 25, West De Pere 22

DE PERE - Osvaldo Soto Sanchez kicked a 28-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to break a 22-22 tie and give the Ghosts the victory over the Phantoms.

Kaukauna’s defense then preserved the win by sacking West De Pere quarterback Duke Shovald on the Ghosts’ 26-yard line with 4 seconds left in the game.

Kaukauna took a 14-0 lead in the first half as Finnley Doriot passed for 131 yards and two touchdowns. Doriot finished with 302 yards passing.

West De Pere responded in the third quarter with a 2-yard run by Andrew Baumgart and a 10-yard pass from Shovald to Ben Lemirand. Isaac Kaster put West De Pere up 15-14 on a 2-point conversion pass from Shovald.

West De Pere’s lead disappeared quickly as Doriot connected with Tucker Hofman for an 82-yard touchdown.

Langdon Nordgaard and Shovald combined to tie the game on the first play of the fourth quarter with Shovald completing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Nordgaard.

Both teams had drives that stalled to set up the winning field goal.

Kaukauna finished with 355 yards of offense while West De Pere had 212 yards of offense.

PULASKI - Broden Butzin connected with Colin Wendt on a 49-yard pass play midway through the third quarter to put the Polar Bears ahead in their win over the Red Raiders.

Levi Strange added a game-clinching touchdown on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter for Hortonville.

Butzin finished with 152 yards passing on seven completions while Wendt had three receptions for 136 yards.

Pulaski was led by Ethan Schmidt, who completed 13 passes for 96 yards.

CRIVITZ - The Wolverines scored twice in the second half in their win over the Chiefs.

Brody MacNeill put Crivitz ahead in the third quarter when he picked off Ty Marcks’ pass and returned it 17 yards for a touchdown.

TJ Mueller scored Crivitz’s other touchdown on a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter.

BRILLION - Zack Lynch scored on touchdown runs of 66 and 71 yards to lead the Clippers to the win over the Lions.

Lynch finished with 173 yards rushing on 17 carries to account for more than half of Southern Door’s yards. It finished with 301 yards of offense.

Brillion was led by Joseph Shimek, who passed for 67 yards, and Chase Braun, who rushed for 56. Brennan Kleist rushed for 21 yards and caught a pass for 58 yards.

OZAUKEE - Ashton Post scored on a 72-yard fumble return in the third quarter to account for the Zephyrs’ lone score in their loss to the Warriors.

Ozaukee got off to a fast start, scoring all its points in the first quarter.

Garrett Weninger led St. Mary Catholic with 59 yards rushing on 10 carries and 89 yards passing, completing 12-of-27 passes.

Daniel Harness caught five passes for 33 yards.

John Schultz had 10 solo tackles, seven assisted tackles and two tackles for loss for the Zephyrs.

Mosinee 64, Clintonville 12

CLINTONVILLE - Keagen Jirschele scored three touchdowns, including a punt and kickoff return to help lead Mosinee past the Truckers in nonconference action.

Carter Fandrey also returned a kickoff for a score as Mosinee used the quick strike to pull away.

Despite the lopsided score, Clintonville outgained Mosinee 382-316 in total yards.

OMRO - The Wolves rolled up 533 yards of offense in scoring the win over the Foxes.

Brady Immel completed 24-of-27 passes for Winneconne for 340 yards and two touchdowns.

Ethan Mathe rushed 12 times for 96 yards and four scores. Immel had 9 rushes for 65 yards.

Dylan Sharrat had seven receptions for 148 yards for Winneconne.

Omro scored its only touchdown in the second quarter on a 22-yard pass from Keenan Rahn to Lucas Kasuboski.

Rahn led Omro with 88 passing yards on six completions.

Homestead Joust

MEQUON - The Xavier girls volleyball team went 3-0 in pool play at the event, defeating Lake Country Lutheran 25-14, 25-7; Neenah 25-19, 25-9; and Sussex Hamilton 25-16, 25-11.

Mariah Potter led Xavier with 52 assists. Belle Shea had 20 digs, Halle Vande Hey 15 kills, Annika Kowalski 16 kills and Madison Daley 14 kills.

The event continues Saturday.

Beast of the Northeast Tournament

GRAND CHUTE - Fox Valley Lutheran got off to a 3-0 start in the tournament, defeating Appleton East 2-0, Sheboygan Falls 2-0 and Randolph 2-0.

Annalise Patchett had 30 kills and 15 digs for Fox Valley Lutheran. Ava Patchett had 27 assists and 10 digs while Molly Bixby had 35 assists and 10 digs. Riley Schmitz had 36 digs and Keira Jahner 12 digs. Emma Nilson contributed 17 kills.

Pulaski went 0-3, losing to Oconto Falls 25-16, 25-2; Edgewood 25-9, 25-13 and Aquinas 26-12, 25-19.

Alexia Thibodeau led Pulaski with 12 kills and 18 digs. Brin Lemense added 12 digs.
