Former UTEP Miners star Tyrice Knight has good showing at NFL combine

Tyrice Knight seemed to solidify his status as a mid-round pick in April's NFL draft with a productive NFL combine performance in Indianapolis this past weekend.

The UTEP star, who led the NCAA in solo tackles this past fall, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.63 seconds on his second attempt. He ran the short-shuttle in 4.40 seconds, which ranked third among linebackers.

Knight had a vertical jump of 34.5 inches, a broad jump of 9-feet, 11 inches and he ran the three-cone drill in 7.25 seconds.

NFL Next Gen scoring had him with a 73 in production, which was 11th among linebackers at the combine, 70 in athleticism which ranked him 17th and a 71 in total score, which was 13th.

Last season the 13th linebacker was taken in the third round. The official NFL bio lists his strength as his tackle production as a Miner.

Knight was the first UTEP player invited to the combine since Will Hernandez in 2018. He is looking to become the first UTEP player drafted since Hernandez was the second pick of the second round in that 2018 draft.

This year's draft is April 25-27 in Detroit.
