Former first-round pick Alex Leatherwood signed to Cleveland Browns practice squad

It has been a rough two years for former Alabama offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood. The Florida native was waived by the Las Vegas Raiders prior to the start of the 2022 season. Then, he was released by the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Three days later, the Cleveland Browns signed the former first-round pick to the practice squad.

Leatherwood will join a Browns team that finished last season with a 7-10 record. He will reunite with former Alabama teammate and current Browns offensive tackle Jedrick Wills. The two were both a part of Alabama’s 2017 signing class.

Leatherwood won the Outland Trophy Award during his senior season at Alabama. The award recognizes the best interior offensive lineman in college football. While Leatherwood has not lived up to the hype, he will have another opportunity to prove himself in Cleveland. It will interesting to see if he takes advantage and capitalizes on the opportunity at hand.
