Former Alabama OT Alex Leatherwood claimed off of waivers by Chicago Bears

It has been a quick turn of events for former Alabama offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood. On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Raiders announced that they were releasing Leatherwood. Less than 24 hours later, he has been claimed by the Chicago Bears.

Leatherwood was drafted by the Raiders in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft. In his rookie season, he started 17 games at right guard. Now, he will look to regain his confidence in the NFC North with the Bears organization.

Last season, Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields was under duress a lot of the time. One would have to think that Leatherwood could possibly work his way into a starting role along the offensive front sooner rather than later. The Bears will also pay him the $5.9 million remaining on his rookie contract. Not to mention, he still has three years of control in his contract.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Leatherwood’s professional career and other former Alabama NFL players
