SATURDAY

Montgomery 27, Hamilton West 8: Matt Davino scored three times and Michael Schmelzer threw two touchdown passes and ran in another as Montgomery (5-0) earned the 100th win in program history. Schmelzer, the senior quarterback, finished 9-of-14 for 184 yards. He ran in a 1-yard score with 5:24 left in the first quarter to give Montgomery a 7-0 lead. Davino added a 3-yard run with 23 seconds left in the quarter. In the second quarter, Schmelzer threw touchdown passes of 27 and 44 yards to Davino as the Cougars led 27-0 at halftime. Davino had eight catches for 172 receiving yards and Brady Post led with 58 rushing yards on eight carries. Trey McFadden kicked three extra points. Hamilton West fell to 0-5.

Pingry 36, Fieldstone 6: Josh Woodford scored four touchdowns and intercepted three passes as Pingry scored 28 unanswered points after being up 8-6 at halftime. Rafferty Harris added a rushing TD and Jack Moye excelled catching passes. Jack Rewey and Carson DeRoner had games at defensive line. Carson DeRoner had a two-point conversion in the win. The Big Blue improved to 3-0.

FRIDAY

Brearley 30, Dayton 14: Ryan Obiedzinski ran in two touchdowns, including one from 55 yards out, while Gavin Marranca and Mathew Resende each added scoring runs and Brearley won its second straight, improving to 2-2. JJ Desarno ran in a score and hit Brandyn Bernknoff with a 67-yard TD pass for Dayton (0-4) in a game that was 14-14 late in the second quarter.

Woodridge 42, Colonia 7: Derek Anderson threw a touchdown pass, ran in a score and returned an interception for a TD, and Jahmir Beal ran in two scores, and Woodbridge rolled against a neighborhood rival. Anderson hit Byron Williams with a 65-yard TD pass, after Beal scored on two short runs. AJ Bosch added a scoring run for the Barrons (3-2). Izaih Toliver was a perfect 6-for-6 kicking extra points in the win. Colonia fell to 2-3.

Plainfield 35, North Hunterdon 0: Joel Cordoba caught two touchdown passes from Kamai Lowery, and Cordoba added two more scores on the ground and Plainfield rolled to a Liberty Silver Division win. EJ Brown returned a pun to the 5-yard line and then ran it in for the score for the Cardinals, who moved to 3-1. North Hunterdon is 0-5.

Bernards 30, Delaware Valley 0: Logan Stevans ran in two touchdowns, and Jake Caldwell scored on a 15-yard run and the interception he returned inside the 10-yard line led to another, and Bernards stayed undefeated. Adam Carlisle also scored a rushing TD for the Mountaineers (5-0), while Jonas Gonzalez added a 37-yard field goal in the win. Delaware Valley is 2-2.

St. Joseph 21, Elizabeth 19: Jeremy DeCaro ran in two touchdowns and Daniel Degennaro added another scoring run and St. Joseph edged Elizabeth in a back-and-forth battle at Williams Field. Ibn McDaniels, who caught five passes for 146 yards for the Minutemen (0-5), opened the scoring with a 63-yard TD reception from Arique Flemming, who finished with 206 yards passing and two scores. DeCaro then scored later in the first and again before halftime, and the Falcons (2-2) led 14-7 at intermission. Jamad Lyles’ eight-yard scoring run got Elizabeth to within a point at 14-13 early in the third quarter, before DeGennaro scored from a yard out and Tyler Huseth added his third PAT to make it 21-13 St. Joe. Elizabeth got a 11-yard TD pass from Flemming to Alex Coles later in the period, but the 2-point conversion pass failed and neither team could find the end zone in the fourth. The Minutemen have now lost five games, all within a touchdown, including two-point setbacks their last two times out.

A.L. Johnson 27, Roselle 6: Robert Gallagher threw a touchdown pass and ran in another, and Ryan Volmut caught a scoring pass and ran in a TD, and A.L. Johnson moved to 3-1. Gallagher finished with 90 yards rushing to pace the Crusaders, who also got a touchdown run from Ryan George. Shamir Burgess rushed 15 times for 71 yards and a touchdown for Roselle (0-4).

Ridge 41, Hunterdon Central 13: Ryan Olivo completed 8-of-12 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns, running in another, and Ridge surged in the second half, improving to3-1 and sending Hunterdon Central to its first setback. Olivo connected twice on TD tosses with Ryan Turner, with Brady Wilson and Rooke Donohoe also catching scoring strikes. Jakob Saus ran in a score for Central (4-1), with RJ Hart connecting with Devin Marrero on a TD toss for the other HC score.

Governor Livingston 35, JF Kennedy 0: Matt Shaffer ran in a 14-yard touchdown and added another score on a 30-yard interception return and Governor Livingston won its fourth straight, pitching its third straight shutout. Lucciano Santamaria threw a TD pass to Michael Geertsma and ran in another with the Highlanders, while Owen Chait (55 yards) ran one in for GL. The Mustangs slide to 0-4.

South Hunterdon 43, Manville 7: Anthony Venettone broke off three long runs for touchdowns, getting in from 63, 51 and 23 yards out, and Venettone connected with Ryder Manfready on a 49-yard score, and South Hunterdon rolled to 4-1. Ryan Rampel, who also connected on three PATs, added a rushing score for the Eagles. Naquavere Thomas scored a rushing TD for Manville (2-3).

Edison 18, Franklin 7: Aidan Woomer scored twice on rushing plays and Edison added another score on a 17-yard Anthony Calantoni-to-Rickey Harvey strike and the Eagles moved to 2-3. Franklin is also 2-3.

Westfield 31, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 0: Maxwell Cho connected on 15-of-24 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns, and Josh Camramango reeled off 160 yards on the ground plus a TD and Westfield scored the shutout win. Enzo Ferreo (5-95) and Sebastian Magherini (5-51) each hauled in touchdown catches for the Blue Devils (2-2). Steven Csorba grabbed an interception, while Brendan Scheper and Zac Wragg each posted sacks in the win. Scotch Plains-Fanwood slid to 1-3.

Old Bridge 30, East Brunswick 28: Jaden Griffith caught a touchdown pass and ran back a kickoff for another and Old Bridge grabbed its first win. Quarterback Brody Nugent tossed a touchdown pass and ran one in, and Stephen Davies also galloped in with a score, as the Knights improved to 1-. The Bears fell to 0-5.

Belvidere 19, Metuchen 7: Belvidere rallied with 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to earn the road win. Luke Tipton returned a fumble 72 yards for a touchdown to give the County Seaters (1-4) a 12-7 lead. Kyle Blew added a 2-yard touchdown run and Pedro Isaque Dos Santos’ extra point made it 19-7. Blew threw a 17-yard TD pass to Mason Chamberlin to give Belvidere a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Metuchen (1-3) took a 7-6 lead on John Bolesta’s 68-yard pass to Dennis Toth in the second quarter. Blew led Belvidere with 55 rushing yards on 13 carries and Brayden Stefan went 12-45 and Elijah White was 2-40 on the ground. Defensively, Stefan had 10 tackles and Tipton had nine tackles. For Metuchen, Bolesta threw for 114 yards and Cody Cardillo and Matt Flood each rushed for 52 yards on nine carries.

Hillside 35, New Providence 15: Zion Risher threw three touchdown passes and Talibi Kaba rushed for 201 yards on 15 carries and a score to lead Hillside. The Comets (3-1) lead 14-0 after the first quarter and 21-7 at the half. Risher went 12-of-19 for 178 yards and threw touchdown passes to Al-Jamir Davis, Kamari Robinson and Darvens Tunis. Chibugo Chigozie-Nwosu added 75 rushing yards on 10 carries and a score. Kavon Hayes had a team-high 10 total tackles and a sack and McNaully Erminal, Darren Ikinnagbon and Leo Harris each added a sack. New Providence fell to 3-2.

South Plainfield 47, J.P. Stevens 19: Pat Smith rushed for 155 yards on 12 carries and three touchdowns as the Tigers improved to 3-2. Smith finished with 223 all-purpose yards. Dom Massaro added two touchdowns on the ground (5-61) and King Hills (3-63) rushed in a score. Ryan Balent threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Aiello in the win. Justin Hannon kicked four extra points. Defensively, Nolan Hook led with 14 tackles (9 solo) and Dylan Oller had 10 tackles and he recovered a fumble that Kenneth Young caused. J.P. Stevens fell to 0-5.

St. Thomas Aquinas 38, Cranford 0: Christian Magliacano had 20 tackles and a 25-yard interception return for a score and Roman Blanks threw three touchdowns as the Trojans (5-0) remained undefeated with their third shutout of the season. Blanks went 11-of-14 for 144 yards and threw two scores to Josiah Zayas (3-77 receiving yards) and another touchdown to Zacai Manigo (3-77). Chase Young rushed for a team-high 50 yards on 13 carries, including a 2-yard TD, and had a sack on defense. Khalil Stubbs added two sacks. STA led 17-0 at halftime and put on 21 points in the third quarter. Jack Joyce kicked a 45-yard field and five extra points. Cranford fell to 2-2.

Carteret 34, North Plainfield 0: Jakir Thomas rushed for 171 yards on 21 carries with three touchdowns as Carteret (4-1) rebounded from a loss to Plainfield in a big way. The junior rushed for a 41-yard TD in the second quarter to open the scoring and added scoring runs of 7 and 18 yards in the second half. Jeremiah Serrano caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Tyrece Parrott and had three catches for 62 yards. Additionally, Darius Armstrong recovered a fumble in the end zone for a Carteret touchdown and had eight tackles. Hezekiah Ragland led with 10 tackles and recovered a fumble and Thailer Jones had an interception. Khris Armstrong also recovered a loose ball and Thomas had five tackles and forced a fumble. North Plainfield fell to 0-5.

Linden 35, Perth Amboy 7: Tequan Thomas and Devon Chavis each accounted for two touchdowns as the Tigers (4-1) won their second straight. Thomas rushed for 100 yards on eight carries and a touchdown and threw a 62-yard score to Elijah Butler. Chavis went 12-109 with two scores on the ground. Myles Hamilton had 15 total tackles to lead Linden with a sack and four tackles for a loss. Tyrone Hinton added 11 tackles and a sack. For Perth Amboy (2-3), Lavion Balthazar threw a touchdown pass to Shakir Price, who had three catches for 75 yards. Jerome Greene rushed for 50 yards on four carries for the Panthers.

Summit 41, Rahway 7: Cole Sabol threw three touchdown passes and Carter Shallcross and Shane Walsh each rushed for 100 yards as Summit won big. The Hilltoppers (3-1) opened a 31-0 lead at halftime. Sabol went 5-of-9 for 170 yards and threw touchdowns of 60 yards to Jake Procaccini, 24 yards to Walsh and 54 yards to Shallcross. Walsh rushed for 107 yards on 10 carries and a 66-yard score. Shallcross rambled for 118 yards on 16 carries. Ryan Schnall went 7-48 on the ground with a 1-yard score. Seamus Browne kicked field goals from 34 and 35 yards, along with five extra points. Jack Bronikowski intercepted a pass in the win and Tyler Kessel had six tackles. Jyvon Cooper scored on a 35-yard run for Rahway (3-2) in the fourth quarter.

South Hunterdon 43, Manville 7: Anthony Venettone rushed for 223 yards on 11 carries with three touchdowns as the Eagles improved to 4-1. Venettone scored on runs of 63, 51 and 23 yards. He also threw a 49-yard touchdown pass to Ryder Manfready. Edward Cooper (5-38) and Ryan Rampel (5-52) each added rushing touchdowns. Garrett Swayhoover had 17 total tackles in the win Cooper had 15 tackles. Naquavere Thomas led Manville (2-3) with 182 rushing yards on 18 carries and a 59-yard touchdown and 17 tackles.
