FHSAA regional finals: Cocoa, Melbourne Central Catholic at home Friday

Two teams from the Brevard County high school football community remain in competition for FHSAA state championships.

Cocoa and Melbourne Central Catholic play at 7:30 p.m, Friday, and the winners will be just one more game away from state finals.

The Tigers, last year's FHSAA Class 2S champions, host South Sumter.

"We've played them three times in my six years here, and coach (Ty) Lawrence, in my opinion is one of the best coaches in the state of Florida," Cocoa head coach Ryan Schneider said. "They're a tough, physical team."

Should Cocoa win, it will be its 17th regional championship in a row. MCC, which hosts Trinity Catholic from Ocala, won a regional title in Class 3A in 2016.
